Yeah both make a small enough amount that there is no cap hit. I think the job is Lack's to lose. The organization is more familier with him. - Bieksa#3
After the year Lack had last season he'll need a hell of a training camp to make the team. He really needs another year in the minors to develop properly. No point in rushing him after all this time. If neither are ready for the NHL they're way better off signing a cheap vet to back up Schneider next season. |

Really? So the flyers are willing to keep Couts, Schenn and say Vorecek(who given his chemistry with Giroux is less likely to be moved)and ignore the fact they need a goalie and #1 d man. A 3rd line center is more valuable to them? Homer likes his players but he isn't retarded - Bieksa#3
Okay, fair enough. So you're saying Edler and Schneider for Couturier the 11th overall pick and maybe Matt Read? |

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree there. I know that he plays with 2 of the best players in the world, but his PPG production is pretty ridiculous and he also plays in all situations and is pretty gritty and physical for his size. He's a top 10 or 15 d-man in the NHL, I don't view Edler as a top 15 d-man in the league yet. - Nucker101
They're 2 very different styles of D-men. As we already have Garrison we would be better off adding Letang than keeping Edler, but not for the $7M Letang wants. He's not good enough defensively to warrant that kind of money. |

While watching the basketball game the other night they mentioned that Popovich used to yell at Parker until he literally broke done and started crying.
I see Edler and Torts having a similar 1st season - Bieksa#3
It's a risk, of course Torts might actually try to coach him, unlike AV did. |

Well, there is no way that the Flyers are giving up Simmonds, Couturier, or B. Schenn. Who else would you prefer? - Chest Rockwell
That'd be like the Canucks saying they want to upgrade, but will only trade Luongo, Ballard, Booth or Schroeder. |

Lack was playing through an injury for most of his short season.
He didn't play great when he was healthy, but it was a very short stint, and at the time the Wolves defense was absolutely laughable. Not to mention he had a "Luongo start" to the season the previous year, and finished with amazing numbers.
Before he got injured he was NHL ready.
He's developed.
Only thing that will be a hindrance or a bump in the road is his injury/recovery.
He absolutely has not been rushed. |

Counter offer was 7.5-7.8 per with a full NMC.
I'm starting to agree with Fosco that keeping Edler may be ideal. |

I'm comfortable rolling with Schneider and letting Eriksson and Lack battle it out in camp for the backup spot. |

Me too.
I'm not saying Lack is a lock to win the spot—he's got to earn it, and Eriksson could very well beat him out.
The injury is definitely a question mark.
But Lack has payed his dues in the minors, and is developed.
Before the injury Bobby Mac, Ray Ferraro, and Wendell Young were saying this kid is NHL ready, and Mackenzie suggested he wouldn't be surprised if he was a NHL starter within a few years (a few years ago).
John Jaekel even suggested that the Hawks trade for Lack in the summer because he had more faith in Lack than he did in Crawford. |

He wasn't dominating at the AHL level (last season) the way you hope a top tier prospect will (the way Schneider was for example) before he got hurt but, it's the injury and all the time he missed that are going to hurt him the most.
The year before he looked like with one more season he'd absolutely be ready to make the jump. We'll see how much the injury set back his progress (if it did at all).
Never said he was rushed, just the opposite. After not rushing him to this point, no sense in rushing him into the NHL for next season he he needs a little more time in the minors. |

I definitely agree with this assessment. After playing in the SEL last season, and Lack missing so much time, Eriksson might be a little more ready by the start of training camp. |

He only played 13 games last season, and in at least 3 of them he was injured. Small sample size. He did dominate the two seasons before.
He's also a notorious slow starter. His unspectacular performance this year could just be a repeat.
He only NEEDS more time in the AHL if his injury/recovery has set him back. We don't know if it has yet.
If he can pick up where he left off, and he's the best candidate out of cam I have no problem with him in the NHL as a backup. |

If we're going with Schneider, then I want an NHL experienced backup because if Schneider gets injured or has a huge drop in play, I'm not comfortable with Lack, Cannata or Erickson as a backup. I definitely wouldn't trust them to play more than 10-15 games and I'm not sure Schneider can handle a 65-70 game workload yet.

I really hope Lack and Eriksson are both ready and compete strongly for the backup role. Lack won't be able to have a slow start this season if he wants to start the year in Vancouver though. |

If they aren't going to play more than 10-15 games in Vancouver they need to both start in Utica and play more. If they're in Vancouver they have to be able to play at least 20 games. |

Then I'd rather sign a UFA backup and let them play 40 games each in Utica, we need to win the Cup this year and keeping them in the AHL to dominate one more year won't hurt them regardless. |

Having an a veteran as an official backup for Schneider (and not a 1b like Luongo) would probably really help him for another year too. |

Booth/ Sign-Draft-Acquire / Kassian - Keep Booth, if he is a bust again this year you can always buy him out next year, give Kassian a chance to actually contribute in an offence role.
. - 1970vintage
There is no choice but to keep Booth... because he is currently injured he cannot be a bought out, and the chance to buy him out ends on july 4th or 5th...

Can't keep all 3 of Canatta, Eriksson and Lack in the AHL, it's going to hurt their development, unless you can loan one of them out to another AHL team where the starting spot or at least 40 games or so is available for that goalie. |

Yup, which means that Ballard is as good as gone. Hopefully this Luongo saga can end as well this Sunday! |
