Do you have a source for this? I've looked and can't find Gillis actually quoted saying this. Not disputing but it would be helpful to have a link to a quote when I make same argument. - bloatedmosquito
I believe he said it the other day at the Torts Presser and after the season was done. |

Lol -- pull the trigger and trade Luongo. Hasn't he been trying to do that for the past year? Nobody is going to take on that contract and the recapture liabilities that could be a lot higher than what you project.
Buy him out or let him continue to tweet from the bench for another eight years. - Canada Cup
Shouldn't you be worried about your own team's albatross contract in Phaneuf ? |

Interesting. Not like Vancouver doesn't have plenty of options, of course, just wonder who the cap might make available. |

Nonis has always been the guy riding on Burke's coat tails. He has just followed burkie around to both jobs. That Leaf team was essentially built by Burke. |

Just think, they could afford Parise, Suter, and Heatley for that sort of cap money!

lol at the offer for Letang starting with Edler and his 5 mil cap hit... Why wouldn't the Pens just shell out another 1.5-2 mil a year and keep Letang? He'll probably get around 7... |
|
|
|
How is there no cap in Toronto but cap in Vancouver?
Burke managed the team pretty well under the cap and Leafs still have 2 compliance buyouts. |

You ain't going to get an argument out of me on Gillis' mishandling of Lu. I've said from the beginning Gillis made a commitment to Lu long term so he should have traded Schneids back in 2011 to support our cup run. |

I am a huge Burke Supporter. Always have been. He just became this big loud mouth that picked fights with everyone. It started in Van and he continued that crap in TO. But everyone laughed at him when he refused to sign back diving deals and refused to give more than 5 year deals. I respect that he stuck to what he believed in. I wish MG did the same.

essentially the 2011 canuck team was built by burke and nonis. Gillis just took over and made one good trade (ehrhoff) and then made a series of mistakes that's erroded their depth.

I don't see that happening. I highly doubt that Luongo wants to stay after the shenanigans of the past year.

Resigning the right players to good contracts is an art form. If it wasnt then every GM could do it. Every GM has great moves and bad moves on their resume. |

Don't forget Hamhuis, Samuelsson, Higgins, and Lapierre.
Hamhuis was much more important than Ehrhoff. Higgins and Lapierre were also excellent after they arrived that season. None of the additions cost a roster player, either.
That looks like adding depth to me. Which was possible because of the excellent contracts he got the Sedins, Kesler, and Burrows to sign.
We've been over this before—not sure how many more times it will take to get through... |

Luongo is a buy out, teams will wait it out, Gillis should've dealt him to Toronto when he had the chance, who cares if it was just a 2nd rd pick. I totally agree about Letang, what a mistake the pens are making. I'm a habs fan so I'll offer beaulieu, diaz, 1st and 2nd rd pick! - kovey27
Buyout or not, there is absolutely no way Gillis should have traded Luongo to Toronto. That is absolutely ridiculous. He's better off buying him out than taking any salary back. |

I really cant believe I am about to do this. . .
I agree with the Pen's Fan. . Letang brings a great skill set on the back end, but he makes a fair number of turnovers, takes stupid retaliatory penalties, and his PP running could be better. You can't deny his point production, but if your making 7 mil a year you need to be a player who other teams alter game plans for. Congrats to the 1 Pen's fan who is rational, well played bro.
Luongo- No GM in his right mind would trade for him, Vancouver played chicken with a lot of teams to trade him and they lost, they held his value too high and now they are going to have to buy him out because of business needs, maybe not this year, but probably next year. - PhillyTruth
No. Luongo has a no trade clause and thought he'd get to go where he wanted. |
