For a guy who was supposed to get 88pts this season, in a full season, it's a pretty good deal for us He's gotten better each year.

Note: I was holding out on responding in case anybody missed the sarcasm
/trolling

But yeah, that's definitely a good deal, any way you slice it.

right...but it's June 27th. We haven't even had the draft yet, let alone free-agency. Pretty hard to already be claiming that GM of the Year Ray Shero has settled for the "status quo."

His moves thus far reek status quo.

You are a little extreme given that the opening night roster is still more than 3 months away.

I'd definitely wait until at least a week or two into free agency before sweating a 'status quo' situation. There's still a huge storm of movement throughout the league yet to come.

Was up all night with a sick kid, so i am just catching up on everything.

Love the Kunitz extension. To think, in the 4+ years he's been a Penguin, he has gotten better every year, and in 2 contract extensions, he has increased his cap hit 125k TOTAL from the contract that the Ducks gave him in 2008. Talk about a team first guy. Happy to see him in a Pens sweater for the rest of his career.

A lot of people in here are b!tching about Disco Dan, and i find it funny that he seems to be the frontrunner for the US Olympic head coaching job. Yes, he mismanaged some issues, but there aren't a lot of coaches out there i would want to have instead of him.

I'm wondering how you'd feel if they lost to Islanders, because if the Isle had any semblance of an NHL tender, that's exactly what would have happened. I just can't forget that a mediocre team like the Isle gave the Pens that much trouble.

I love the Kunitz signing went completly under everyone's radar. No rumors what so ever that Shero was even talking to him. Shows you that probably about 90% of stuff out there is garbage.

But they didn't. They also put up a ton of goals against an Ottawa team that was 2nd in the NHL in goals against. I hate when people use the "What if" nonsense. It's not worth dwelling on some hypothetical situation that never happened.

OK, who would be the serious candidates with Bylsma? Sacco? Fired ... Capuano? Torts? Not too many good options here. Could you see Torts talking to media in Sochi? His system sucks to begin with.

Report on TIOPS is saying 8yrs at 52-54 mil with very little wiggle room. Also says Letang's camp is furious over the Toronto rumor. Letang's agent says that's completely unfounded. So pretty much confirms what we all think about Rossi.
- madmike71

Well, I'm sure Letang is furious, if its inaccurate. I would also imagine Shero would be as well, if he is considering or was considering trading Letang. That would have shrank the market a bit.

Rossi is a buffoon. I wonder what would happen if the Penguins pulled his pass and didn't give him access based on his throw it out there and see if it sticks MO.

Status quo may not necessarily be a bad thing considering the cap going down.

They didn't, but they were outplayed badly in four of six games. If they had some decent goalie in net, they win. It was an embarrassing series even though we won. We didn't deserve to win it and everyone knows this.

It can be argued every cup team wins a series they didnt deserve to win. The Kings of last year were the only one who could be considered dominant throughout in recent history.

Possibly Letang is as fragile mentally off the ice as he is on it?

Great point... a lot of teams are making tough cap decisions and stepping back a little.

Look at the "final four" teams... Chicago is likely losing some combination of Bickel, Handzous and Stahlberg and rumored to be shopping Bolland to keep Bickel.

Boston lost Jagr, Ference, and has to figure out a way to keep Horton while signing Rask.

LA might lose Scuderi, Penner, and has to make some tough choices with some of their younger RFA depth players.

Yeah...maybe the Penguins need to spend some good money on a sports psychologist...

I can't be the only one that thinks too many problems with them are the 'between the ears' kind...can I?

Using the words "what if" are instrumental in virtually every business decision that I know of. People that gloss over problems usually suffer some serious consequences.

Let me get to the root of it... The Isle played a 1-3-1 and gave the Pens fits. Ottawa, did not trap and were slaughtered. The B's (a much better team) trapped and swept them. The Devils trap and on a yearly basis and gives the Pens fits as well. I don't know about you, but I see a pattern. Dan hasn't exactly proven he has an answer for it.

I'm sorry, but it's hard to dwell on the "should'ves" and "could'ves" when the Penguins won the series. You say about a decent goalie, but the Pens lit up a very good goalie in the next round. The Islanders were a young team that had nothing to lose. Give credit to them as well, because they played a great series.

In the grand scheme of things, it shouldn't matter at all. But I think it's pretty much an established fact that the players hate Rossi and they probably didn't appreciate that moron injecting himself into it.

Let's put it this way, when Ek makes something up, it doesn't end up on TSN. When a supposed real reporter says something, you normally believe there's a real source.

Letang probably doesn't want the fans thinking he's already considering leaving.

Signing one of the best centers of all time to a respectable extension and extending Kunitz for 3 years at an almost identical cap hit? you're right, his moves reek of status quo for the reigning GM of the Year.

Not quite sure what you expected him to have done before the NHL draft.

I think Letang should be paid on the same level as Karrlson. I'm not entirely convinced that Letang is better than him, because Karrlson plays on a worse team while getting similar point production. Anybody who says Letang doesn't get at least a sliver of his points from Crosby and Malkin is obtuse.
