You know that old GM adage of sometimes the best move is not making a move.
Well, it isn't always true...
Jeff Marek @JeffMarek now
Lawton had him going to the Habs for Price, Pacioretty, a 1st and either Subban or McDonaugh.
This was in 2009...
Ouch... - rival22

Nah...I wouldn't do that. You're generally nice and funny so no need to throw mud around.
Besides we hadn't gotten out of the 1st or 2nd round in a few years so that mud is more like stones in a glass house. - HopintheCordoba

Wow. Hadn't seen it spelled out like that yet. What a great contract!
Odds that we see Dupuis sign an identical contract? |

Identical in years, yes. Duper probably will get $3-3.5M. |

Have to be better today than yesterday, although he was most adamant about staying. That'd be a very acceptable rate for him. He may even take slightly less. My feeling is that Shero will take good care of him.

On the surface this is true, but Kunitz has been making a hell of a lot more for many years. Duper made peanuts in comparison. He might just wait and see what he can do on the open market. |

I think Dupuis could probably get $5 million a year from the right team on the open market. I couldn't blame him for trying, but I'd love to see him stay here. A $10ish million contract at $3.35 a year. I think that's reasonable to expect. Maybe not though. |

And it's funny. His best season ever was his last.
I wonder if Brooksie will get the same threatment.
Orpik, Brooks » $3,750,000
I'd probably extend him a couple more years at his current rate or a little lower ($3.5M maybe). Wouldn't be surprised if that happened. We'll need him for the next 3 years at least. |

We are lucky he's already 34. If he was 30 I could see that happening. |

Enough with the Bylsma's system. You draw me up a system and show me the x's and o's that has intercepted passes in your own slot and blue line turnovers in the game plan. - Ryan_Wilson
Amen. The system works fine when the players don't do boneheaded things with the puck in their own zone and around the opposing blueline. |

I don't know about that. But, if he sticks around another year or two(duration of Martin's contract) then that could work out alright. I think he would take a slight cut too. |

Sounds good to me. Him and Martin together is always good to watch.
But Brooksie probably will want to feel the love...show me the money..he could ask for a 2 or 3 year extension easily. Let's wait and see. |

Glad to see Kunitz extended. He brings something that no other forwards bring. Im curious how this affects Dupuis, not that trhe Pens have an "old" forward locked up. Not sure if its wise to have a mid 30's player on each line.
As it becomes more and more obvious, Letang will be dealt....I still think that hurts the team. Nobody knows if Despress can step in and take those minutes or how good the other D prospects may be eventually. |

That being said I think there are tweaks that are necessary. I personally don't care for the amount of "switches" that the Penguins utilize with their d men in their own end but that has nothing to do with Letang's biggest gaffes.
The reason the Penguins utilize those switches is because the coaches put a premium on being aggressive and not allowing the other team's puck carrying players time and space. When the switches go wrong or are slightly delayed things can break down fast. |

That was one of your better blogs Mr. Gunner. While you obvious preferred opinion towards the situation continues to shine through, you did a much better job than some previous blogs presenting both sides of the issue. I would have been applicable to show the regular season statistics as well. I appreciated the effort made to present both sides. Kudos |

Regular season hasn't been the problem. Why bother wasting time?
It would be like analyzing Fleury's regular season stats. |

I'm admittedly kind of suprised by the Kunitz move as Shero hasn't been previously willing to give players multiyear extensions in their mid 30's. That said, considering Kunitz has continually improved his game (and production) every year here and can play with either Sid or Geno, I like it, especially at those numbers. He'd get over $5 mill on the open market. If I had more time and didn't actually have to worry about getting any work done today, I'd do an analysis of Kunitz's productiuon vs salary compared to other players...but my suspicion is Shero just got great value. |
