First and foremost, the question anybody should ask before proposing any trade scenarios is...
If you were Letang, where would you want to play the best years of your career?
That's all that matters. Letang isn't singing a long term deal in 60 to 70% of markets. This is fact.
If you're the Pens, what teams teams would you refuse to deal with. 2 or 3 of those remaining teams.....we all know who they are. Narrows it down to about 6 or 7 possibilities. - madmike71

I think Letang has shown that he doesn't care where he plays, as long as he gets paid. If he wanted to play for a contender, he would be staying in Pittsburgh. |

No you have it all wrong he wants to say in Pittsburg.... for 7.8 million dollars a year |

Sounds like he wants the best of both worlds, but leaning towards the money. There will be a team out there that will pay the $$$ and still have a chance to win the cup. Likely not as good as the Pens, but still a realistic chance. |

You're making the assumption that it's an either/or situation. Letang can simply play out his term and I guarantee you a perennial contender will give him everything he wants.
Shero has his hands full. Letang has only one year left on his contract. He will control where he goes one way or another.

I anyone else concerned how the negotiations of letang and staal have been so public I feel like it takes a lot of leverage away from the pens in trade scenarios. |

True, however, if I'm Letang, I'd be concerned where I'm traded to. Say, for conversation sake, Calgary. poopty team and his play could get worse by playing on that type of team. He could stand to lose $$$ since its his contract year.

But by asking for what he is he obviously doesn't care to stay with the pens it's a money thing. I don't blame him I would have the same mindset as an athlete. You have to get what you can while you can. |

Rebuilding teams wouldn't be trading for letang. |

Yes, but there are five or six stupid GMs out there thay can't help themselves and would acquire him regardless of the circumstance and cost. The prominent ones are the two on the east and one in Pacific Northwest Canada. |

No, but there are teams on the cusp. I don't think he would do well in Columbus. I don't think he would do well in Carolina ... those are two I could see toying with the idea maybe.

Columbus is on the up have a Vezina goalie, but moving to our division so not happening. Carolina also moving to our division and doesn't have cap space. |

Letang has enough on tape where an acquiring team knows what their getting. Even Feaster wouldn't be dumb enough to make a deal for a guy that probably won't sign there long term.....of course anything is possible with Feaster.
I'm sure most teams know they're getting a great talent. They probably also know that his gaffes are a symptom of the "complex system".
I forget what writer said, the words "Letang" and "complex" shouldn't be used in the same sentence.
Get him a coach with a simple defensive scheme and Tanger will be every bit of top 5 defensman. |

Sharks could be possible. But the one team that would pony up for him is a team that Pitt will likely never do a deal with....
Edmonton doesn't want him for the price. Carolina possibly. But it still comes down to Philly. |

Too bad Philly is such big rivals, they have some things the pens could use. But a team like San Jose who is losing Dan Boyle soon would be an awesome fit for letang. If Boyle had a better contract and was signed for another year or 2 he could come back in a trade to help with our prospects. But can't San Jose make a trade with Boyle where they agree to take like half of his salary so instead of being 6.6 cap hit, it would be like 3.3? Like the jokinen deal? Of course they would have to add more but that wouldn't be bad. Always was a fan of boyles |

Good read on Letang situation from Elliotte Friedman
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/...ut-of-contract-talks.html - PENS FAN in CANADA
he's an emotional vagina... Seen nothing positive coming out of any interview or rumor... Deal has to get done but I think he's a bit scared of all these prospects coming up in the system. I like the guys game but truth be told I'm not big on his personality at all. |

It's whatever now. If shero is certain the cap will rise in 2014, then a deal around 7.25 mil won't be bad, however it's quite above his actual value level. |

If they pay him that... Fleury will be gone and they will be doing something along the lines of 4 million cap space for their 2 goalies.
It would be a bit of alright if they can sneak the preds top pick- Barkov, a guy like Klein... And another piece. |

No I'm saying that Letang's point production is undeniable, but it should be taken with a grain of salt. Over his career he averages a higher ppg than Karrlson, but that doesn't necessarily make him a better player. I was also suggesting that Letang had more to work with so to speak, which makes his stats better. All I'm saying is I don't think Letang is worth much more than Karrlson, if at all. - TomKlassen
Yeah..uhh, I'm taking Karlsson ten out of ten times over Letang. |
