Like Deadstar said, business is business. Penguins are lucky to have the people in charge that they do. They understand asset management. - Ryan_Wilson
8 mil is too much IMO. If he was invaluable and a true part of the solution I would say, of course. But truthfully he is a luxury that can afford to do without at that price. His offensive upside is upended by his poor judgment and decisions with the puck. I for one am tired of yelling KRIS at the TV year after freaking year. |

TIOPS reporting that Letang wants 8mil with a full NTC. The Pens offer did not include a NTC. The NTC is a deal killer for the Pens.
Tanger is a goner... Shame, but can't blame either side. - madmike71
$8M is too much!! His trade value will diminish IMO. I really like the guy but I am disappointed.
I have a feeling Bobby Ryan would be just like Letang and would ask for something like $7-8M /year. It's crazy money to just throw around like that.
Is Eberle too much to ask?
As far as D goes, SJ has Vlasic and Vancouver has Edler as options. |

insidepittsburghsports.com says letang has been doing some checking around the league and high on his list is toronto and gulp, the flyers. I would puke if I saw him in a flyer uniform - bigdaddywaite
I hope Shero uses Letangs list and wipes his A$$ with it. Ship him off to Phoenix or stick him with torts. Better yet get him on the west coast where the travel is the worst.
I mean get the best package you can for him....No Philly. Hell no. |

Tanger countered with 8 yrs., $7.8125 per and a full NTC? Get real! |

I would puke too. Fortunately, I don't think the Flyers have the assets that the Pens would covet. I still think, the Pens are going to want a good D in return. I see no way around it, unless they flip an asset that they get back.
Furthermore, the Pens aren't going to provide their biggest rival with a significant missing piece. TIOPS is also reporting that the Ducks are very interested. |

We're not taking back a forward with a bigger cap hit than Letang for the coming year. Defenseman maybe. But not forward. I just cant see that happening. |

The Flyers?? It's gotta be damn Talbo calling him....or just a way to pressure management.
Voracek/1st Round Pick for starters if we had to trade him there. |

I don't have a good feel for where Letang would be traded to or what specific assets would come back, but Pittsburgh needed another top 4 d man with Letang on the roster let alone without him. |
|
|
|
I'd want to go to the Flyers too if I was Letang. They'd probably offer 8 years $80 million for him. |

Do you like Vlasic? I could see us trading Letang to SJ somehow. |

Letang should be traded to CGY where he will never see another playoff game for the rest of his career. |

No.
He wants way too much money. And why would the Flyers - or any other team - trade top assets this off-season for a player they can bid on for nothing next off-season?
Not that it won't happen, but trading for Letang when it's becoming painfully clear the Pens can't keep him seems foolish. |

On top of this news we've all seen today: Dan Bylsma is going to be officially announced as the coach of Team USA for Socchi.
Congratulations on winning gold Canada!

It is said every year, but players with 1 year left on their deals are traded for a ransom every year. |

I said it last week and will repeat again... I believe Letang is traded on or before the draft to Edmonton, Anaheim or Colorado. |

As much as I would like to see him resign that request is absurd and I'm glad the Penguins aren't dumb enough to give him that.

Only the Pens can give him an 8 year contract.
With the buyouts and FAs, there's a lot of top level talent potentially available this off-season. If I'm Flyers management, I go after Ference way before I go after Letang.
Edit: NM, after the trade the team holding his contract could give him 8 years. My bad. I still don't think the Flyers could swing it even if they wanted... |

True. And that's just crazy to me. But a GM certainly might do it to get the fanbase excited. This is going to be an incredibly interesting off-season. |

Two things...
Letang isn't making it to next season without a long term, big money deal.
This is the Flyers we're talking about. Snyder and Homer move core assets every time the wind blows. |

Any team that acquires his rights, can sign him for 8 years.

If you are giving a guy 8 years you shouldn't have a problem giving a NTC you are commuting to him for the long run with the years. I just assumed a NTC would be default in the contract but I still wouldn't go more than 6.5 but apparently the pens already went 6.75. NTC are really meaningless anyway I feel like the majority of players thy get tades at the deadline have a NTC or NMC |
