From @MarkEdwardsHP on our show this morning "I know two NHL scouts who don't have him (Darnell Nurse) in their top 30"....interesting

I also like that Rasmus Ristolainen is a good decision maker. Considering he also has a bit of a mean streak, I wonder if he edges out Nurse for our pick

Bolland and Nick Leddy are available?

7th overall and Paajarvi? I do that every day of the week

- mochoson

Meh. Bolland's been injury prone and wasnt that good this season. Leddy's good and young, but similar to Schultz and we aren't in need of more defenseman that need to be semi sheltered.

Jim Matheson @NHLbyMatty

player OIL really likes if they trade back from No. 7 in round one: London centre Bo Horvat
4:02 PM - 25 Jun 2013

Interesting.

- ystoil

Matheson isn't really that connected anymore.

Interesting but it sounds like two guys trying to be the smartest in the room. Most if not all of the trustworthy scouts have him top ten.

Strange that not one draft ranking out there has Nurse lower than 8th.
Risto is anywhere from 8-25.

Some guys just think they know more than others.

William Carrier ranked 15th I believe by CSS, yet Button doesn't have him top 75 and says he doesn't think he will be an nhler. As the saying goes...Opinions are like bumholes...everyone has one.

Correction he wasn't connected. New GM could change all that.

Still, he writes his tweets like an elderly man trying to figure out the internet.

Who knows. Matheson could've been good to MacT in his younger years.

That and MacT seems quite open with everyone.

Why not out of curiosity? Higher ranked prospect in a so called deeper draft. Or is it just that Klefbom's overall ceiling is higher, but Nurse is more likely to reach his potential?
- Morris

I think draft rankings after the fact are kind of a useless number in terms of any debate on who we think is better. and we're also not talking about the guys at the very top of the list that everyone projects as sure bets. nurse is far from that.
it doesn't really matter 2 years later that my guy was drafted 12th and yours was 19th
and with that said, there's at least 5 guys taken earlier that I wouldn't even consider close to ahead of klefbom now.

nurse seems to me to be a bit pedestrian and not the skater that klefbom is. and I don't quite see the two way or offensive potential in nurse that I do in klefbom. this includes shot and his breakout skills. he seems to be more of a true shutdown guy, and generally speaking even the best true shutdown guys aren't quite considered as elite as the star type two way guys If you follow my meaning. there isn't one guy that most would consider putting in a best dmen category that doesn't have quality offensive skills as well. in fact some of them are offensive only, while none of those in the very top are defence only/shutdown guys.
and this is really where my 'ceiling' argument came from.

add to that some solid play (before his brutal injury) in a pro league and dman of the tourney at the wjc's with a dominating performance on the gold medal winning team.

of course it's all just guesswork and it's not like I wouldn't be extremely happy with t a true shutdown guy. I was just responding to his point

Cool. Nice.

I don't know much about these guys so I'm trying to decide who to be happy about if we draft them this weekend.

Malone - pros (2nd/3rd line LW w. size, 4.5M cap hit for 2 seasons)
cons (Hx of concussions)

Horcoff - pros (2nd/3rd line C, good in the dot and can protect Stamkos (now probably Barkov), 7M of 'real money' over the next 2 years.
cons- (5.5M cap hit over 2 years)

I don't know about no trade clauses for Malone... but this makes sense for both teams.

Morris, you're the voice of reason what do you think man?

Worst case we buy out 4.5M.

- unkydav

My impression was that he's pretty banged up and that his effort isn't always 100%

I think it's a good solution to the Horcoff thing though. Honestly I haven't watched Malone much since he left Pittsburgh.

I want nichushkin. but as you said, we don't know much about any of em really.
ill be pretty stoked on whoever they choose from the avaliables, (save a small winger) as not only does oiler scouting have a lot more info than I do, we need all the help we can get. everywhere.
