Am I the only Devil fan who thinks this wasn't a good signing? I like Zubrus, even defended him a few years ago when everybody wanted to ride him out of town because he wasn't a 20-25 goal scorer (which I said he never was but that's not why Lou signed him) but again like I said about Salvador (which I hated that signing) last year, you can't keep giving these "older" players 3yr deals. He's 35 and slowing down already. Most thought he was overpaid at 3.4 mil before so we give him 3mil a year now...6 years later? Watch Lou give Zidlicky and Elias 3yr deals so we can have the OLDEST, SLOWEST team in history of sports...well for at least the next 3 yrs

Worst case scenario is we stash him in the minors in his last year. It's only 3mil, it won't kill us, and we'll have a lot of kids too in their 1st legit contract; Henrique, Matteau, Boucher, .. pretty much everyone besides Zajac and Kovy. .. and Volchenkov. I think we'll be fine. As he slows down he'll become more and more a 3rd line player, and I'm ok with that. He battles hard and I don't think age will take that from him. He's also a young 35, just turned june 16th.. so for what it's worth, could be as much as a 11+ month difference lol, almost another year.. or half a year, or whatever.. but he's a young 35.

Nice to see players getting signed, although the most important signing remains, just like last year... one of the darkest offseasons I've had to endure. Game 6 ending how it did and then losing our captain, again.. except this one was just 2 years into his prime. painful.

Tedenby, Loktionov, Josefson, Zubrus .. all basically done. Henrique will be next. Clarkson will be lost. and hopefully Elias can be retained. We're not as bad as we finished last year, we all know that. We're a decent team when healthy. still a top 6 and a "Krug" away from being a contender. You never know. Hope Marty doesn't play like his age. Hope Hedberg can be sharp at his age. I used to defend the age argument with Marty, but I mean the fact is he IS old. He's not getting older anymore, he is old. And Hedberg is old. the chances both of them play great aren't high. Hoping for the best. 1 more run for Brodeur. such an incredible career. So many records, Cups, medals, good times.

I don't even bother looking at the comments on Fire and Ice anymore. Too many irrational people that overreact.

The ones making fun of Jeffs and Fucale on that site were even worse. I don't mind Larsson criticism, but how babyish is it to start calling people (female vjs) and (another word for negro that people don't seem to like) just because they disagree? Those kids need to be slapped in the mouth by their grandmothers.

Nice that's a good deal. Real good cap hit. I love Zubs took me about a year to come around as he struggled in his first year with this i felt. But since then he's come around to become a very important piece. Him going down early really messed us up last year. His pk ability, board work and net presence were sorely missed.

Good resigning. Can still be effective in our top 9. Think he can still be an effective 30-40 point player. Prefer him being on the 3rd line and acquiring a top 6 LW tho.
- Rseen

Definitely but he can be in the top 6 and it's not the biggest stretch to put him there.

This means Devils will probably not resigning Clarkson. They will offer him something but I do not think it will be enough. Lets focus now on resigning Elias. Maybe a 2 or 3 year deal 4.5 mill.

I'd be shocked if Lou gave him a shorter deal than Zubby and I think $4.5m is wishful thinking. Getting him for $17m (or $18m) over 3 years is fair and the most likely case in my opinion. Getting the deal done is what matters more because I agree that Clarkson is going to test the UFA waters and bolt to the Leafs.

I'm glad he is signed but I do think it would of been better had he got 3,3,2.5 instead or maybe even 3,2.5,2.5

Ah too bad,
I was hoping he'd sign with the Flyers for his encore last performance.
Good signing for the Debs though.

I'm not thrilled with this deal either. Zubrus is a good puck possesion guy but he doesn't post any offensive numbers. I realize the Devils can't fill their roster with scorers but what has Zubrus really done in his time here? He has also driven me crazy since day 1 because he's 6'5 and doesn't hit anyone! He is basically the new Jason Arnott minus the good slapper.

Am I the only one who does not hate this deal, but i feel like heis not going to live up to this contract up until two years ago he has been way over payed and not done a whole lot to help us out hope he proves me wrong . On a side note would like to see the devils snag Eric Comrie in the draft.... Go Devils

No, I think most of us like the deal. He makes less per year than his last contract, and can play anywhere in the lineup.

Great points. Its easy to overlook the downside of keeping 35+ player like this when he's a fan favorite.

I was the same way about Salvador, before the playoff run in 2012, I couldn't wait to get him off the books. Who would have thought that after the cinderella playoff run, he'd actually get a raise from his prior contract at 36 years old?

The only reason I am still alright with Zubrus at 3 years is because I don't expect us to be at the cap during the next 2-3 years.

When I hear all these Ranger fans talking about how they are going to sign McDonagh long term at Roman Josi type money, it makes my blood boil. McDonagh is such a sure thing that a 4 mil cap hit would be a steal.

I wish a team would sign him to an offer sheet worth about 6+ mil a year. IMO he is worth that cap hit. Either way it would screw the Rangers, like what happened to the Preds last summer. Either they lose their cornerstone Dman, or they lose about 2 mil in cap space from what they would have paid if they match it.

Its official, lightning use a compliance buyout of Vinny Lecavalier. Who do you think will pick him up? Maybe Calgary or Dallas?
