Unless it was a straight up swap for Letang and Phaneuf I don't see how Leafs would want him. He would cost to many good prospects that have higher potential then Letang. And pits can afford Phaneuf over Letang? I dont think so. I can see Letang signing in Toronto when hes a UFA but that would mean no new deal on the team he is traded to meaning less value Pits can give out of a trade. |

what do you guys think of this trade
letang, sutter
for
phaneuf, kulemin
We know the pens are high on kule but I'm not sure if that really helps us at the center position. Sutter at best is a #2 guy. Still a solid centerman with tons of potential tho |

I dont know much about him and I guess I could look it up... but playing on Pitts I would be worried about some inflated stats.. what % of his points are on the PP?
I dont know why.but I am not really interested - senstroll
Letang put up 38 in 35 gp. 13 points on the PP, 1 goal. |

I have watched quite a few Avs games and Statsny is as overpaid as they come, his PPG have plummeted from 3-4 years ago and with the addition of Duchene he gets to face 2nd and 3rd pairing defensemen more often. He's just not a difference maker, he's a decent 2C for most teams. He would be the 2nd center on my awful Sabres team behind Hodgson - OneKaneOneCup
His contract isn't an issue as the Avs could retain up to 50% of it making him 3.3M$ player as well as this is his last year so it poses no problem for the team that deals for him.
Also Sacco's system was the worst possible fit for his style of play and is the primary reason for his decline in numbers. Funny enough Carlyle's system is probably the perfect fit for him. If he isn't traded at the draft, expect his numbers to go back up under Roy this year.
He was always played against the teams top lines.
He is best when you place him with a power forward and shooters like Stewart and funny enough he would probably be the perfect center for a player like Kessel. |

That i can agree with you on... - SameOld
The return will be something like that. Maybe the prospect they ask for is a little too much for your liking
I hope we re-sign Letang.....but if we trade him to Toronto, expect to pay at least $7-7.5M/year. |

that contract description sounds horrible... smooth sailing when Weber is 33 - senstroll
Was thinking the same thing - best deal in town from age 33 - 40. |

I didn't know he was #1, that is actually pretty impressive.
However Stastny was possibly #1 but guaranteed top 3 in PPGvsQOC (or points versus players who played against the same level of competition) and played with David Jones and Aaron Palushaj (has anyone ever heard of those players?)
So I'd say its about a wash.
With seeing this however I fell like I have been undervaluing Phaneuf, however I still stand by the idea that Stastny's value is larger.
Edit: Or at least I could say each player could fetch more somewhere else than for each other. - Meeqsb
No.
Stastny's value couldn't be lower. Colorado can't afford to pay him (Roy and Sakic are bluffing out their asses when they say they won't be looking to trade him) and nobody who can afford him has the cap space.
There are maybe 2 or 3 possible destinations for him if one of those teams wants to take a chance on a high reclamation project. And let's be honest, he's a reclamation project at that price. |

Did you really suggest #5, #7 or skinner for Dion (one year left before UFA @ 6.5mil) |

I just never notice him as a difference maker. He's a solid player but IMO a 2C. Definitely not worth almost 7mil. |

Agreed, id easily trade our first and Gardiner + for arguably the best rh puck mover in the game.
+ Cant be Rielly though. |

If PITT can't afford Letang, who is significantly better and much younger than Phaneuf, why would the want Phaneuf for 1 year? |

I generally Check Hockeyanalysis.com, also MileHighHockey has come out over the past 2 years and provided very strong and solid coverage of the Avs in which they have a love for advanced statistics. |

Oh yeah, Dion would need to take a paycut after this year though, and hed probably have an off the charts year playing with Letang. |

Kadri, Gardiner and your 1st for letang. That's a realistic trade for him. Your delusional if you think otherwise. Really hope the leafs keep phaneuf, love watching him cough up the puck, be out of position and make bad pinches every game. |
