Is it ok the leafs be patient with their young players to see how they pan out instead ofalways trading prospects then regretting it. We complain we can never build properly but always want to trade our youngsters. We wanted kadri gone before this season
- walshyleafsfan

I have no problem with that but if it means a top defensemen at only 26 years old coming the other way its a no brainer.

I think your enthusiasm has clouded your judgement.

I think he is a keeper, but imho, Phaneuf still sits waaaaaay above him on the performance meter.

- Atomic Wedgie

Today, yes.

Although Phaneuf did sh1t the bed a bit in game 7.

The discussion though is giving up Gardiner ++ for Letang. That I don't do.

I am pretty hesitant to part with a young Dman with that kind of potential.

I missed the memo. Please re-post. And oh injuries dude. Someone had to play.

"I think Jake is moving better than at any time he's moved this year," Carlyle said. "I think his competitiveness on the defensive side of the puck has gone up dramatically from where he was at Christmas when he came back. ... He's elevated his game here in the playoffs – he has an element that every team would like."

"He's a special player and he separates himself with his skating ability," Toronto coach Randy Carlyle said after Toronto's 2-1 win in Game 6 Sunday night. "And he's playing at the level that we expected he would start with us.

"So are we surprised by it? No, not really. This is what our expectations were for the player. The bottom line is Jake's a puck-moving NHL elite-level defenceman. And there's areas of his game like any young player, like any player, have to be improved on. And that's what we asked of him."

Right and I think that's insane. We haven't seen enough from Gardiner to make that call. I'm not totally convinced he won't spend a lot of time in Carlyles doghouse.

It was really enjoyable watching Jake flyin' out there.

A real pleasure.

I called it before the series, that if he got a chance he would impress people. They told me he was too soft, but you can't hit what you can't catch.

Never read that. I'm now a believer that Carlyle may like him. Me? Not sold. To many holes in his game and they will become largely apparent over a full season. I have no problem changing my tune if I'm wrong on that.

Phaneuf for Johnson+2nd?
Trade Grabo (I'd still prefer to wait and hope he can bounce back so his value is higher)
Sign Vinny 3 years 3.5-4
Boyd Gordon is unreal in the faceoff dot.
Hopefully Komarov comes back

- MapleLeafsFTW

Fairly certain Komarov is for sure playing in the K.

Les we not forget, Dion poop the bed in game 4, allowing Krecji to score the OT winner. But I agree, I am quite hesitant to give up Gardiner. Honestly, if Pitt can find a way to fit Dion in their cap space, I'd seriously feel better keeping Jake & trading Dion for Letang.

That's the word on the street, however, it could be a tactic to inflate his salary??? Hopefully.
