I'd be very surprised if he went to TOR.
He'll want insane money in order to put up with a hot-bed market, and if that is what he wants, I say he takes MTL or NYR over us.
And it wouldn't surprise me if it's a 1 year deal, then he moves back to TB - AngryWhiteMale
Even throwing the bank at him for just one year wouldn't hurt the Leafs at all. |

I love how the Rangers will go balls deep after him. Wonder if they buy out Richards to fit Vinny in. Remember when people were saying out classless it was to buy out a player and how it would hurt the chances of others signing there? Guess it doesn't hurt as much as once thought |

He's always allegedly wanted to play for Montreal, that's my bet. I do hope we bring him in though. |

Wives of players love having a hubby with an inflated NY paycheque and a place to spend it all for them.

The people of Toronto just remind themselves that at least he's not corrupt enough to run MTL |

What I saw in the playoffs was pretty spectacular for a guy who hasn't played a lot of pro hockey, and who was against a very tough team in Boston. He, along with Reimer, have shown enough to deserve another look. If we trade him away, then we continue our reputation of never properly developing talent and being patient.
As for Letang
For the last 5 years Letang has played on a team with the likes of Crosby and Malkin. He gobbled up points on the PP to the extent that he was top 5 in league D points. Yet, he hasn't done anything in his own end to prevent what's happened to PIT these last couple years(think: Mike Green)
Unless we're sure we'll get top-notch tending, there's no reason spending young assets just to get a guy who, while being an effective OFD, isn't a solution to our problems, especially with regards to Dion. - AngryWhiteMale
Agreed.
I'm just excited about all of this speculation. Could be a lot of big movies, hopefully we benefit from it. |

I still say Letang doesn't make a lot of sense, esp. if it involves Gards.
Look, if a guy who can complement Dion is what we're looking for, then why are we going after an offensive Dman??
We already have enough punch from the back end in Gards and Franson.
If what we want is even more punch, then let's get Dion to start putting more pucks in the net. - AngryWhiteMale
he needs to hit the net first and when he does that, then pucks in the net they will go. |

Dude have you watched Gardiner in his own end? - honesthockey
Yeah, I did, in the playoffs... you know, AFTER he had a chance to re-adjust to the NHL after being injured and spending a lot of time after that in the minors.
... What I saw was that he was our best overall Dman. He was better in his own end than Phaneuf by the last couple games in that series.

You cannot put Gardiner anywhere near Reimer. One plays in the NHL the other doesn't.

Nonis doesn't fork around out there. He's in it to win it.
Thanking BB too for cleaning things up and setting his pieces into place the way he did. JVR, Gards, Loops.
BB's record actually looks pretty good in retrospect now that the media wank-fest has stopped.
He restocked young first rounders. Won all his trades hands-down, and the more we see of Kessel, the more reason we have to believe that we did get the best player in that deal.
We just need to get Kessel re-signed |

So 6 games makes him a star?
And no he wasn't better then anyone in his own end. Look the kid has done nothing to say you wouldn't include him in a deal for Letang who has done plenty.

TEE DOT IS IN DAAAAAAAAA HOWWWWWZE
I agree. Would be wayyyyyyyy to much expectations on Vinny if he played in his hometown province of Que. Canadien's fans would expect him to carry them to the cup. And if/when he doesn't, those fans will turn on him & run him out of town. Don't do it Vinny, don't go to Mont, come to TO, we'll really love & appreciate u here in TO. |

Meh he won't get another shot at UFA in this state of his career.
If he really wants to be a Hab, now's the chance for him.
Hell the guy just gobbled up a 20m+ un-signing bonus.
______
So where do you guys think Richards ends up?
Haven't really though about it. |

I think your enthusiasm has clouded your judgement.
I think he is a keeper, but imho, Phaneuf still sits waaaaaay above him on the performance meter. |
