if innocent until proven guilty is a true statement.... then its pretty poopty to hold someone who is technically "innocent"

I am still in utter disbelief they didn't forfeit the 29th pick last year. Just (frank)ing stupid.

Did Lamorello just forget?

- Big_Lightnin

All the same, Stefan Matteau seems like he'll be a pretty decent player in a few years!

It is because he is a flight risk, big time. He has way too much money, to let him go free again.

A NHL hockey player becomes a free agent when he has no contract. When a contract is bought out, it no longer exists. Therefore, they are a FA as soon as the paperwork is done on the buy out.

This is the last year they can use their first pick, next year it is forfeited.

edit: notification due the day after the conclusion of the Stanley Cup Final if they wish to forfeit the pick this year, which they have not.

- LeafMan

haha... so ya he prolly forgot last year

though I thought it was one of the next 3 years (at the time) and this was the 3rd year? making it by default?

or was last year the 1st year?

here's the thing, EVERY year the buyout period in June results in a few players being bought out. Those players have always had to wait until July 1st.

These rules have not changed.

The one thing that is/has changed is that teams are buying out players with more than one year left on their deals. We're seeing some big ticket buyouts here.

um... lots of players have been bought out with more years left on their deals.

Tucker and Yashin to name 2.

http://www.capgeek.com/buyouts

here's capgeeks list - Tons with 2-4 years left in the past

EDIT: woop that';s the buyout term... so everything more than 2 years on that list was a deal with 2 or more years remaining. 2 yrs is 1 yr remainin.

Tampa's still paying Prospal $1M+ a year

Why does a football player need this ? on him. Hire a body guard if you are afraid. Buddy was into the drugs, if you ask me.
