adding those 3 players will cost min 15 million. the leafs only have around 12 to play with.
Grabbo has to go then for that to happen - senstroll
Make it so! Grabo becomes redundant, if we do sign Lecavalier, or any other top six center.

damn thought the draft would just roll right into UFA day - DoubleDown
A little wait, this year teams can talk to UFA's 48 hours before they can sign on the 5th. |

Redden played for the Bruins this year, and Gomer for the Sharks, check the buyout, are by the Habs and Rags. |

was just saying, seems like a lot of Leaf fans want Grabovski bought out so as it stands now, who is benefiting more from that trade? was said in jest. |

I understand that.
Here's the sequence...they were bought out by the Rangers and Habs respectively, became UFA's and signed FA contracts with the Bruins and Sharks. Their buyouts are still listed on the Rangers and Habs payroll (at $0...but it's there). It also shows how far their contracts extended...Gomez until 2014 and Redden until 2014 as well.
Both players original deals went beyond this year. They didn't have wait until FA started to get signed by a new team, they were immediate FA's. |

Not all of us haha. I went and looked at what happened with what the Leafs gave up in that trade. MTL ended up with Pateryn and Lang? Yep Ill take Grabo lol.
Its crazy how much that second round pick traveled after that trade.

I think the whole waivers thing with buyouts is actually there to benefit the player, ie. does anyone really think for example that Bryz is happy to be forfeiting so much money because he got bought out? In Vinny's case, he's fine with the buyout because he knows his next contract will be a good one anyways to go with the buyout payout. Did that make sense? |

I like Grabs but if he isn't scoring he's pretty much useless, plus he did little this year and the offense had no problems. Other players bring versatility so even when they don't produce they hold value to the Leafs. |

I don't believe the timing of the buyout is relevant. The fact is that as soon as the buyout was complete they were UFA's. They had no contracts. - djamon
it was also because they were sent home by their teams but still being paid |
