What would it take to get Hornqvist? - Orpik44
Being that Hornqvist is signed for a number of years, a proven veteran that will crash the net, and is a fan favorite, it would have to be a stud prospect or a proven young player. Although a mid level 1st rounder might work. |

He's the 3rd best center on the worst team in the NHL, how is he more valuable than the top defensemen on a playoff team? - OneKaneOneCup
2nd worst, they won the lottery. |

This would have to be a monster deal for PITT to consider dealing him within conference. The overpay by TOR would have to be gigantic...I'm thinking bind-blowing overpay (IF Letang is signed):
Gardiner + 21 + Kulemin + Gunnarson + 1st in 2014 <-> Letang + Kennedy???
It would almost not be worth it for TOR to try...lol. On the other hand, if PITT has a deal in place for Fleury to say CGY, then I could see something like:
Gardiner + 21 + Kulemin + Gunnarson + Reimer <-> Letang + Kennedy
I know these are insane offers, but really, why would PITT trade to TOR otherwise, there must be at least a few Western Conference teams ready to bid as well...I just don't see Letang involved here...3-way deal, maybe...but he would need to end up in the West still... - mventres
Hahaha wtf is this. Gardiner has more value then 1 year of letang to pitt who know they probably can't resign him. Let along everything else you have there.
Give me a break haha

I would cite playing in the east vs west, the players they played with, TOI, QOC, and mostly Coaching as the reasons for why Phaneuf finished 3 points higher. Stastny also played 8 less games (or about 1/5th less games) than Phaneuf. Stastny was also used almost exclusively in a defensive roll at about 43% OZS.
Phaneuf was also a -6 in the playoffs, when it mattered.
Avs also have the option to hold a large portion of Stastny's salary which makes his trade value exponentially larger whereas the leafs most likely wouldn't entertain the idea.
In a year where the Cap is going down and a team can trade for a top 6 center with a 3.3M cap hit Stastny is far more valuable than Phaneuf. - Meeqsb
did the avs new guys just say they werent trading that valuable asset?

so you are saying the 4th pick is on the table in a trade for Dion? - senstroll
No, I am saying Dion with only 1 year left is not going to get our 4th pick. Now maybe if we can extend him to a long term moderate contract, maybe we would consider it. |

What would Toronto ask for in a trade from Nashville? Can you imagine Weber and Phaneuf on same team.
Weber / Josi
Phaneuf / Ellis
Klein / Bartley
Gill
Players that aren't available for a trade. Our 1st round pick this year, Forsberg, Wilson, Bourque, Weber, Rinne, Josi, Ellis - dgutzman
Seems like nothing then. How do you figure you can ask for a trade like that and then say that the top 20 assets are off limits? |

I feel that they are not, however the poll was credible and accurate.
On a side note I think you are one of the most well spoken leaf fans I have met on this site and you do a good job of backing up your opinion. So while in this instance I may disagree with you, I do have a great amount of respect for you as fans like yourself are few and far between. - Meeqsb
Listen, I know I'm being a dink right now, but can you blame me? I can toss the fact that Advanced stats say Phaneuf faced the toughest competition amongst NHL d-men this year if I believed in advanced stats, what I know is if you have a d-man capable of 40 points and 200 hits and able to play over 24 minutes a night, you don't trade him. Especially when his partners all season were Mike fricking Kostka and Korbinian Holzer. |

Whatever you're smoking, I want some. You just asked for 2 first rounders, a top D propect in the league, a 3-4 D thats very young and kulemin for Letang. Why don't you just go to the Edmonton thread and offer them Letang for every one on their roster? Plug.

No, we replaced Suter for the most part. Josi is about 80% of what Suter was, but 6 years younger. Josi can still grow as shown by his MVP at the Worlds. What we didn't find is a replacement for Josi on the second line. I think Dion could fit that roll and not have the pressure on him to be the superstar on D. He could focus mostly on offense. We could pair him with Klein for a Defensive partner or Ellis on the power play.

Letang's another Whitney imo. Crosby and Malkin can make a superstar d-man out of anyone.....example Paul Martin. |
