I wouldn't consider that a substantial basis for any argument. Norris is also voted on by the Writers Association, I would take current players credibility over theirs. - Meeqsb
The only thing sports illustrated was ever good for was the swimsuit issue. If you really consider it a reliable source for hockey insight, I feel bad for you son. |

What would Toronto ask for in a trade from Nashville? Can you imagine Weber and Phaneuf on same team.
Weber / Josi
Phaneuf / Ellis
Klein / Bartley
Gill
Players that aren't available for a trade. Our 1st round pick this year, Forsberg, Wilson, Bourque, Weber, Rinne, Josi, Ellis

Rossi was just reporting that Letang has told Shero that even though he wants to stay in Pittsburgh, his preferred destination is Toronto if they can't get a contract extension done. I don't think there's a trade in the works, and I know Pitt fans will rip this apart, but there's no guarantee that Gardiner or Rielly won't be better than Letang when they reach his age.
I think Rossi was just stirring poop up. |

So what you're saying is, you're not willing to offer anything of value for Phaneuf. Fantastic, where do I sign up? |

Here's a funny thought, stastny's a centre, phaneuf's a d-man.....so how the hell did Phaneuf finish with more points then the guy he's supposedly worth less than. Jesus, there's discussion and debate, and then there's just pure out fishing for attention. - mykokes
This. The comparison is laughable IMO. Stasny's numbers relative to that cap hit? |

I would cite playing in the east vs west, the players they played with, TOI, QOC, and mostly Coaching as the reasons for why Phaneuf finished 3 points higher. Stastny also played 8 less games (or about 1/5th less games) than Phaneuf. Stastny was also used almost exclusively in a defensive roll at about 43% OZS.
Phaneuf was also a -6 in the playoffs, when it mattered.
Avs also have the option to hold a large portion of Stastny's salary which makes his trade value exponentially larger whereas the leafs most likely wouldn't entertain the idea.
In a year where the Cap is going down and a team can trade for a top 6 center with a 3.3M cap hit Stastny is far more valuable than Phaneuf.

No, Phaneuf only has 1 year left on his contract. If the trade also had a contract extension involved, that would change some things. But we have a very strong group of prospects that would be considered. Our core team is off limits. However, if his contract isn't extended, we aren't giving up our core for 1 year.
Ekholm, Watson, Leipsic just to name a few. |

He's the 3rd best center on the worst team in the NHL, how is he more valuable than the top defensemen on a playoff team? |

Let me dumb it down for you hotshot, the Leafs would be moronic to deal a top pairing d-man on a playoff team for a guy who hasn't been a top line centre in years on a team that just missed the playoffs. And spare me the west is better than the east crap. |

I feel that they are not, however the poll was credible and accurate.
On a side note I think you are one of the most well spoken leaf fans I have met on this site and you do a good job of backing up your opinion. So while in this instance I may disagree with you, I do have a great amount of respect for you as fans like yourself are few and far between. |

What would it take to get Hornqvist? - Orpik44
Being that Hornqvist is signed for a number of years, a proven veteran that will crash the net, and is a fan favorite, it would have to be a stud prospect or a proven young player. Although a mid level 1st rounder might work. |
