Toronto has no leg up on this Letang deal other than they may be a preference which means you are going to pay to sign this guy to an extension and by pay I mean sending assets the other way. Reilly/Gardiner+ Kulemin and a first would get it done with Letang extended. I know I'm gonna get pillaged as an overpayment but that's what a top notch d man costs. I'm sure there may even be some other assets possibly discussed.

If you want something for him, it'll have to be a bit less.

It may lower it a bit...but on an extension offer he is easily back to full value although its gonna be tricky with the draft and extension date a week apart, I guess conditions will be in place. he likes toronto now, but he ain't exactly guaranteed to like you guys when he has every other team opening the bank for him when he's a ufa. trust me other teams will look all that more enticing... They always do

I've tried breaking him down for info a few times but he doesnt talk about Hockey. Talking with his uncle, he was convinced Steven was going to sign short term and leave for Toronto first chance he got but that changed with the long term deal he signed.
