Because there is no one else to acquire.. and hes free and he wants to come here - Mapleleafs_91
I'd say "free" loosely... He's going to get over-payed, and his injuries kinda worry me. |

If we're going to design a package of Gardiner plus for a centerman. We may as well go after Skinner. - Sheppy99
Yeah, I mean he is small, dreadful in his own end, signed to a big contract and has injury issues but he puts up points. Don't think he is too great on FO either but go for it. |

Damn straight, we were awful last year and the MGMT was uncommitted to spend which is why attendance was bad. And the Kroenke's heard it loud and clear.
Its why they fired Sacco and half of the front office, hired Sakic, Roy and promoted Billington as well as made Josh president and flooded a ton of money into rebranding everything.
The Kroenke's are loaded out the ass and own a team in pretty much every sports market. They are committed to winning.
Unlike the leafs who have put a crap product on the ice for 10 straight years and still charge an arm and a leg for tickets because leaf fans will pay no matter the price.
Avs aren't a cap concerned team anymore but that doesn't mean they are going to go full Sabers GM and throw money at every FA who played over 15 min a game. - Meeqsb
I disagree with you and still think the Av's will try to pay the least amount possible to squeak into the playoffs and then add extra dollars after the added revenue, aka, the safe route.
In any event, on what planet do you think the Av's are in a position of strength dealing Stastny? With the addition of Mckinnon, nobody thinks you are going to have a 6 million dollar centerman playing 4th line next year. Secondly, his contract expires at the end of the year which lowers the value of any player you are trying to trade and thirdly Stastny wants out of Colorado so he can have a bigger role on a different team.
Explain to me where Colorado has a gun to our head and is able to demand Gardiner plus for stastny?
You're starting to sound like a canucks fan. |

Looks like u ran out of facts. Tell u what, if the cost is too high for Stastny and Bozak wants too much money then Nonis might take a crack at Weiss. You'll be stuck paying your third line center 6 mil plus and letting him walk for nothing after the season. sounds like a great situation. |

Naw you are right, overpaying in the FA market is a solid strategy for success that will TOTALLY work out for you. Its not like teams resign everyone worth a damn anyways. - Meeqsb
hows finishing near the bottom working out for you? Are the Avs as good as the Pens? No, not even close. Theres many different ways to build a team. Through the draft is one way, and through FA's is another. BTW the Leafs haven't been overpaying for anyone other than Grabo and maybe Phaneuf. Why are we even talking about Colorado anyways? Im sick of the Stastny talk, he's a (frank)ing bum, let's move on already |

I have no doubt the Avs will be able to trade stastny, it won't be hard.
But go ahead and tell me that no team will want him because of his contract like the 10 other people who have already thought that it mattered (if you don't know what I am referencing why don't you go back or reference the new CBA) |

The only reason stastny is even half attractive is it wouldn't cost that much to acquire him and we could renegotiate a deal with him at the end of the year depending on how he fairs this season.

Toronto has no leg up on this Letang deal other than they may be a preference which means you are going to pay to sign this guy to an extension and by pay I mean sending assets the other way. Reilly/Gardiner+ Kulemin and a first would get it done with Letang extended. I know I'm gonna get pillaged as an overpayment but that's what a top notch d man costs. I'm sure there may even be some other assets possibly discussed. |

I agree, I figure u guys would rather Gunnarsson or Franson. You have a ton of solid D prospects, wouldnt u rather a young more proven guy as opposed to a kid with an insane upside.

Honestly I would give this deal major thought. IF an extension window is given before accepting the trade I would almost say yes to this deal. I'm probably a minority but I think it's a good deal. |

Having only 1 year left on his contract hurts his value. You are mostly right but I don't completely believe it would cost Gardiner or Reilly. If he had more term left. Then yes, it probably would.
Prospect would be Blacker/Percy or Ashton. |
