Can confirm that talks between #Isles and Evgeni Nabokov are at a standstill. He will become a UFA on July 5th, barring a turn of events.

See - he even likes the color orange. A natural fit for the Islanders.

If the Canucks end up wanting to buyout Roberto Luongo, why not trade him to the Islanders instead and take back Rick DiPietro's contract. The Islanders would be able to have a very solid starter, and the Canucks could buyout DiPietro, who would cost the Canucks less money. Obviously, picks/prospects could be included to make this a fair deal, but to me it makes some sense. Any thoughts?

Just talked to Evgeni Nabokov, who says his first choice is still returning to the #Isles. "We couldn't find the middle ground right now...

Hi Bryz, you're certifiably insane and an average goaltender. Good luck in the KHL!

Nabby in an 82 game season is not a number one but who would pay him as a number two? Think he may look for a more vet team like DET or BOS.

After draft we will see where the Isles are going. Got a feeling they are not looking to make a big trade of youth for vets. More likely to keep youth, keep lower salary level and grow fan base slowly with team. Still think fans are still excited about seeing Nino, Strome, Lee and Nelson step up. Donovan should challenge Along with some vet fa pickups.

I agree but if they don't buy out DP then that would not be a bad option. The right way to go would be to buyout DP and not have to worry about a crazy contract.
- NYI44

There's no pressure to buy him out right away. The Islanders currently have ~$29.2M in cap space, with only Hamonic, Bailey, and Hickey due to get significant raises (or even just a contract). Even with those 3 players getting raises, it will hardly make a dent in that. There's plenty of time to buyout DP down the road, it's not a pressing issue at this exact point in time.

Yes, yes he is. You're team would rather pay him $23M until 2024 to NOT play due to his antics and pedestrian goaltending. For reference, Claude Giroux will be 39 years old when you finally stop paying him. Pass on Bryzgalov.

He's a UFA. Isles didn't toll his contract

Contract expires July 5th and the Islanders aren't going to go the (original) Nabokov route and toll it. They're letting him walk, not that he would have ever agreed to play here anyway.

True but if he gets hurt playing in the AHL then they can't buy him out and then they are stuck with him. Granted Wang would probably like that so when he does eventually buy him out it will count against the cap

I know, it was a stupid contract. Both length and dollars.
He was getting paid to be a top five goalie and was just average over his 2 years.
Also it didn't help that the team D in front of him was a complete mess.

Bryz can play but not at the level he was getting paid for.
That is the bottom line.
The circus act was just a sideshow and not that important.

There will be another buyout period this time next year. As long as he doesn't have some ridiculously extreme injury, ie: paralysis, and isn't in shambles this time next year he'll be perfectly fine to be bought out.

It wasn't all his fault, he did have way too much expected of him. I don't know if it was Homer giving him that contract or Snider forcing his hand (like Wang did to Snow with DP), but it was bad.

He can play well at times, but he just annoys me in general so I would hope the Isles go another route. There's enough nonsense that surrounds this team, I don't want anymore.

I understand that if he gets hurt and needs surgery or whatever and is not ready by the time camp opens which is a good bet with him they are facked. Why even wait? They can't go with 3 goalies in the AHL as well. Just end the last remaining piece of the horrific Milbury era and move on

Poulin is almost all but guaranteed to be on the Isles roster as a backup next year, so it will likely be Nilsson and DP splitting time, unless there was some news on Koskinen coming back to play that I haven't seen.

I get the concern but I'm sure if DP has one of those nagging injuries start to come back that word will come down to Bridgeport for the Isles brass to shut him down for the season.

They signed that guy who played at the end of the year for BP. Reiter or something. They signed him like a month ago. That would make him Nilsson & DP in BP.
