it would cost us something along the lines of

Strome, Hamonic, our first.

You wanna make that deal?

I dont.

Could be pick Nino and AMac too...or
pick Nelson Reinhart...
pick, Grabs and ????
we don't know for sure what they will want, but you are right , it would cost some talent for sure. But again its worth exploring

Pens aren't trading Letang within the division. No way.

Just another example of Garth losing on the deal. Asleep at the wheel. You think he has plans in place, maybe he does, maybe they suck. Maybe he flings pencils into the ceiling panels in his office all day. I dont know. But he cant even lock up nabby. They've been talking extension since end of reg season. An offer was made. That we know. It wasnt enough. Why not accomplish that ONE thing, before free agency starts. Why risk losing him? Its baffling. He cant lowball everyone all the time. And if you think he's gonna blow away all others for best FA goalie or trade for Miller ur outta ur mind. Theres a reason hes so active on the waiver. He cant fill holes any other way.

This happens to be a very fun activity. The entire office can get in on this action.

Agreed...Pittsburgh took the Islanders lightly in the playoffs and would have got burned if Nabokov played decent in the playoffs...that's why I think if Snow can get an upgrade at goalie, Nabokov's days on LI are over...

It had to do with Vis... they had to trade for him. If they went under the cap they would receive a fine and who know what else.

Not a Snow issue... a Wang issue!!!

I'm just not sure how I feel about Letang. He took some heat for his performance in the Boston series. He also seems to me as someone that will have a huge points drop off no matter where he goes. Let's face it, you play on the power play with Crosby, Malkin, Kunitz and company and your ppg is going to look awfully good. From a defensive standpoint, I'd say he's good but not great. He's undersized a bit 5'11" 200lbs, and seems to be a bit of a hot head (see his crosscheck on an official). The guy is going to want crazy money. I just think we're better off finding a true tough guy dman who can do a little of everything and allow our other prospects to grow.

That's a great point but also look at it from another angle... Besides what he wants money wise.. If he were to come to the Isles and play on a PP with JT, Strome? Mouslon and Viz. I'm not in any way comparing them to Pit's PP but that would in no way be a disappointing PP.
And from a D point of you. You stick him with a young, stay at home giant that the Isles have been stock piling for a year now and I think he'll be good to go. Don't pair him with Viz or Hickey 5 on 5 but, maybe a Reinhart, Hamonic or Pedan. Those are all players Pittsburgh didn't have.

I think the assumed price for Letang will be on the order of 6 years $7 mil per season.

So I guess the big question is, do you want to pay him that and hope he'll be as effective here? In addition, the going price for a trade would likely be huge.
Personally if he's dealt, I'd figure the West would see him. A team like Detroit would love to get their hands on him.

No shot of Snow going after Letang. It would cost too much in prospects and picks as well as actual cash to sign him. Not even sure why its being discussed

agree...

the gap between what the two teams want/receive would be so wide it's pointless to discuss

Well, our need wasn't for an offensive defensemen. More so, I don't think we want to be paying him $7 mil a season 3-4 years from now when we find out that his defensive play looked much better because he had been facing more conservative attacks due to the danger of the Pens attack. We can also watch him have a Gonchar like dropoff where he goes from 60-70points per season to 45.

If de Haan can stay healthy for once, I think we have a clone of Letang in our system already. I know..big 'if'.

Don't know why...their record has been worse than the Islanders over the last five years and they spent a lot of money on free agents...

Its pretty safe to say RDP will never play for the Isles again. He's a non-factor for the Isles on-ice going forward. If he wasn't, he wouldn't have been demoted last season.

They didn't demote him this past season just to give him the starting job again this coming season. I'm so sure of that, that if he is the starter come October, you can pick whatever embarrassing avatar you can dream up and I'll use it from October to June.

No, I agree. And like everyone has said, it's almost ridiculous to talk about because it's nothing but a dream. I just think Letang is a better D man then he showed this year. Pit went all in offensively and the forward lines did little to no back checking making Pits defense look horrendous on many occasions.

Interesting quote by Vinny:

Chris Johnston ‏@reporterchris 17m Vinny Lecavalier says news of his compliance buyout from #TBLightning hit him and his family hard.

But not in his wallet...
