Just another example of Garth losing on the deal. Asleep at the wheel. You think he has plans in place, maybe he does, maybe they suck. Maybe he flings pencils into the ceiling panels in his office all day. I dont know. But he cant even lock up nabby. They've been talking extension since end of reg season. An offer was made. That we know. It wasnt enough. Why not accomplish that ONE thing, before free agency starts. Why risk losing him? Its baffling. He cant lowball everyone all the time. And if you think he's gonna blow away all others for best FA goalie or trade for Miller ur outta ur mind. Theres a reason hes so active on the waiver. He cant fill holes any other way.

what value does tim thomas have?

C'mon. Really?
We also aided a conference rival to get under the cap because we're cheap.

when was this tweet? i wonder if they meant if they trade his rights and he goes on to play elsewhere (this past season)...

id be curious to know if trading his rights during the offseason would cost the isles...

- LetsGoIsles

I would assume it would as the Isles retaining value for him at anytime would mean they're liable to pay Boston.

Losing the deal? We had to get to the cap floor. This got us there. It cost us NOTHING to do so. I'm not saying I liked it but it's hard to say he 'lost' when all he did was get an imaginery number added to the cap at no cost.
As for Nabby, we don't even know what the demands were let alone the circumstances of his departure. Frankly after that playoff series, I really would have preferred we didn't bring him back. You can't determine that every non-deal is a 'fail' since sometimes it's an addition by subtraction issue. I don't know if we'll throw 'big money' around, I don't think we need to, but I do expect an upgrade at goaltender. Considering it's on June 28 and we're over a week away from free agency starting, I'm not going to start complaining yet.

I'm gonna throw out a crazy idea. Maybe he is looking to upgrade over Nabby and that's why he is in no rush to sign him?

I agree with you here. I feel Nabby did pretty good for us when he played but he is getting older and no longer in the plans. We need someone a little younger to be a stop gap until either Poulin or Nilson are ready to take the reigns

just answer the question- put yourself in the shoes of a GM that needs a goalie for this upcoming season, what are you willing to give up for the opportunity to speak with, and maybe sign, tim thomas??

Give up nothing and sign a free agent. I am sure we will find someone. It is possible not that I want him but MArty Biron comes back. I think he is a free agent this year

I think/hope we're going to aim higher than that. There are plenty of better options than Biron.

Yes, really. What value does a 39 year old goalie, who hasn't played in a year, and has given no signs that he wants to play have? Let's hear it.

True but might be the only guy in the Isles price range. Remember we are still in Nassau and I don't thing Wang is going to spend much money

I'd go after Vinny but not for 4 million, course the Rags will sign him for 5 million anyways I'd also make a crazy offer to the Pens for Letang. Yeah I know there are some that will crucify that thought here today but I will throw it out there anyway.....

One year at 4 million, I would do. Agree about Letang as well.

Pens are going to want some top prospects and picks I would think. I mean Letang is good but not for all of that

I hear what you are saying but Letang is not the type of offensive dman that comes along too often....we have the pick and we have the prospects....you are likely right however that they would milk us for a ton with him but the gamble may be worth it.

it would cost us something along the lines of

Strome, Hamonic, our first.

You wanna make that deal?

I dont.

I think a lot will have to do with Ricky's pride!!!

Does he really want to split games with Nilsson in Bridgeport.
I'm sure they will be sitting down and discussing this.

I don't mind him playing in Bridgeport... as long as it doesn't affect Nilsson or Poulin's development.

- jimmc7722

RDP has no choice or say in the matter. He'll do what he's told to do or he won't get paid. He can report or retire. those are his choices.

He won't hinder Nilsson's development unless Nilsson lets him. Nilsson needs to focus on getting/staying healthy and play when he's told to play.

someone posted A. MacDonald, Nino and our 1st for letang.... i dont think that would get it done from the pens point of view and im not sure id want to do that deal as an isles fan...

Bailey is a better wing then he is a center.

Bailey's days at center on the Isles are over.
