If a team with a bunch of kids finishes in 10th I would be thrilled. It means they are learning there way through the NHL and just need time to mature.
I am not hoping that this team sucks. I am coming into realization that what we have now, is not working. Change is needed. Bringing in more veteran players just does not seem to be the smartest move. - ImThatGuy
I agree, 100%! Keep the good ones that we have.
Keeping just the kids to play alone didn't work either. You might remember that whole drury/Briere thing
Miller can bring us back a ton right now, I think. He needs a change of scenery anyway. I feel like he would be reinvigorated under another team, plus maybe they'd put a defense in front of him.
Vanek should stay if they can surround him with some talent. He's kind of been the only real star caliber player on this team on offense for years now. It's really sad. If they can't, do the respectful thing and trade him somewhere he can contribute to a winning culture. - OnPoint
What the team needs are players that compliment each other. Meaning faceoff specialists, physical grinders, penalty killers, at least 1 top center man, 1 top d man, a couple veterans to keep things grounded, and a decent (doesn't have to be elite) goalie. It seems like an eternity ago that the Sabres were considered the hardest working team in hockey. We didn't have the flashiest players then but they came to play and fans of any team could respect that. Please bring back that kind of hockey. Darcy please find a way to put the puzzle together.
I have a very tough time assessing the value of Miller. While I believe he is a top 10 tender in the NHL I am not sure that the Sabres will be compensated as such. Every GM will look at the expiring contract, high cap hit (although Buffalo can retain some) and his performance in the last couple of years and try to lowball him. I believe that Luongo is the better of the two and if he can't find a "fair" trade I think Buffalo will as well. One of the things that have been shown over the years is that you can win with solid goaltending.

Apparently Bergeron was playing with even more than a broken rib, torn cartilage, and a separated shoulder... He's being treated for a punctured lung as well. That guy deserves to be their captain. Screw the behemoth that can push guys out of the crease, Bergeron's an absolute warrior.
In this cap crazed market, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that there is a bigger market for enroth than Miller, and if true Buffallo should go that route.
Miller is one of the best tenders in the league and at 32 has at least 5 more years if not more. If I'm the Sabres I rebuild around Miller.
Vanek is overpaid, but I think if the sabres unload him for prospects, then good luck attracting any decent UFA's.

the issue with Lou is the length of the contract.. no one wants that..
would love Vanek with Kovalchuk. what a line that would be, regardless of who's in the middle.
It would be great if Buffalo could keep him through the rebuild, but he'll let management know he won't be happy playing there with a rebuild.. and idk if you want an unhappy star taking up tons of cap space. If a good return could be had, trade him.
You want Tallinder back to bring Myers back to his glory days? Both players were at their best with each other. If it was a guarantee Vanek would re-sign in NJ, i'd trade our 9th overall+Tallinder for him... but that won't happen.

Kevin, I like you and you're a good blogger, but I think you might need to cut down on blogs that contain recycled information and old news.
All this blog is doing is touching up on quotes from a few months back that we've already gone over. Now I don't mind inciting conversation and asking questions from us, I think that's cool. But at the same time it would be appreciated if there was more content rather than just reiterating a situation we've been talking about for months.
I dunno I'm bad at giving a decent critique so you probably will get nothing out of reading my comment.
