I think Bolland is gone and the money they paid him they will pay Leddy because of his amazing upside
It's smart business |

And if the Hawks had the cap space, I would consider recommending they match.
But they don't. - StLBravesFan
Unless they move Oduya... which doesn't seem likely. |

Bickell over Leddy in a HEARTBEAT - philco28
In this minute in time we all would say so
However would you have said that lastvFeb and next March ?
Nothing against Bickel but puck moving Dman in this league are rare and part of me thinks he has more upside than Seabrook and 3 million may look like a steal in two years
Takes time for Dman to mature
Case in point Hammer

I don't know if Leddy will ever be more than a fast skater with + offensive skills and average defensive skills. I'd guess he maxes as a 3D and 4D is definitely achievable. I'd say a 3M short year deal is definitely reasonable. I'd replace Kompon with a TV screen showing video of the hawks on 5 on 5. Can't be much worse as a PP coach. - Walky
Agree to all. I see Leddy as a Campbell type defensively at best but with that speed he could be Letang or even more on offense. |

I'd love for them to keep Leddy .
Any trades they make for draft picks I would hope those picks are used on forwards. |

Powerforwards who show up big in the playoffs are also rare as we demonstrated the last two years. We've already got a talented puck mover in Clendening and possibly another one in Fournier. Sure they're a couple years behind leddy and not as proven but which do the hawks need more right now? We've got plenty of mobile D but not much in terms of big boys in the pipe. |

Can't go to arbitration...Leddy isn't eligible.

Someone earlier said that if the Hawks qualify and he receives no offer sheets that it goes to arbitration.

Good point. Last Feb most were saying keep Stals and Leddy and let Bicks walk.

Definitely at best. Campbell is pretty good on defense and he could throw some nasty hits once or twice a year. |

I just read the CBA on Restricted Free Agent compensation, trying to understand it for Leddy. Here's what I gleaned (doesn't mean my reading is foolproof, but I think I read it fairly carefully):
Hawks must make a "qualifying offer" to Leddy. The QO looks to be something well below his value, $1m or so. After reading that, I didn't spend much more time on the QO, as it looks to be just a formality. Note able is that the drafting compensation is NOT based on this QO.
The draft pick compensation is based on the offer made by the offering team. Average salary over the term offered. The compensation is as follows:
Under $3.36m average salary: 2nd round pick next year.
$3.36-$5+m: 1st and 3rd rond picks next year.
Above $5m: who cares.

I would argue that Bickell was the MVP of this team in the playoffs. Forget about points. His style allowed Kane and Toews to get unhooked. Without someone like him on this roster... Look no further than the past 2 years in the playoffs. Kane and Toews are put in the best spot to produce when we have a power forward on their line. When they score.... We are tough to beat. We have no replacement for Bickell in the system. Leddy is our 5th d at best for he near future.
I like Leddy alot. But for terms of how this roster is set up... Bickell is more important to me. As long as Q leaves him alone |

So just a dumb question...I know the numbers being thrown out for guys like Bickell, Stalberg, and Leddy are speculation on our expert parts, but if these numbers come true and Bickell gets 4+ for 20 pts in the regular season why did we lose half of this season? These owners cry poor then dish out silly contracts like its Monopoly money and we're back here again in 5 years! It's so sad that fans endure this crap so frequently due to owner stupidity. I love this team but if someone offers up some of the money mentioned for these 3 guys I say don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya! |

Leddy isn't arbitartion elgible from what I know....
Qualifying a player simply means he can't automatically become a free agent.
Leddy hasn't been around long enough to be arbitration eligible and he was signed at a young age...Not like Niemi.
Unless the CBA has changed a lot I believe I am correct.

Agreed to an extent. When you have the number of guys we have making north of 5 mil... you need key role players that are young or vets. The problem is we don't have a power forward in the system to replace Bickell. This is a key position in the playoffs. Not so much in the regular season. So you can light the world on fire for 82 games... and get bounced. I think we need to keep Bickell or come up with a better plan than Brunette.
All you need to do is watch Toews and Kane with Buff in 2010, watch them with Bickell this year. Then watch them with Brunette, Stalberg, Saad, even Sharp (playoffs) to realize it's a need. |
