JJ...you've mentioned that Stan is looking to move up in the draft (as I'm sure many GMs are). But how far up is he looking to move? 1 - 5? 6 - 10? 11 - 15? 16 - 20?

This is a pretty deep draft. We could get a very good player at 7. Nurse would be there. Maybe Sean monahan. He is a very interesting pick. They say he is a toews-lite. Not as good offensively but does all the little things
- tomcat24

What about mid first round? I heard that Tie Domi's kid has decent skills.

You know before this would have bothered me....not at all. Same with Kane. I'm sure Deadspin is stalking him....

Fact is, today's athlete is beyond scrutinized. Bobby Hull was/is/still a raging alcoholic, pummeled his wife, yet people treat him like a god.....Yet, Kane and all these other guys are basically doing the same thing but don't have the MEDIA protection that was there before...In the past, unless a press member hated you, you never heard crap...Now, everyone has a camera and the internet to expose you on a dime.

I hope they all get hammered, celebrate safely, and enjoy themselves. Could care less what the moral police has to say about it.

I for one always will. After over 40 years I'll never forget him walking out the back the Amphitheater after a game against the Cougars and right up to my brother and I, big smile for us, grabbing and signing both our sticks and then continuing to smile as he was swarmed with kids looking for a handshake, a smile or an autograph. The man stayed out there until he at least made eye contact with every single kid. He actually cared about the fans and the game.

JMO but I could never see them paying Kane more than Toews. I think they are offered the same money just like last time unless there is a major fall of in performance by one or the other. I would be worried about Kane balking and looking towards Buffalo. Everything Regeihr is doing seems focused on 2015. All those picks, unloading salary etc...
- tredbrta

Give this a rest man. Where's Kane going to get sizeable endorsement money in Buffalo - from Momma Peccarros Used Car Dealership or Top's Friendly Markets? Buffalo is a broken down small town half the size of Winnipeg.

The kid is close to a legend in a big market U.S. city and he's going to head back to downtown Tonawanda in his prime? Maybe when he's 35 but not before that.

And Regier has never built anything, even with Leggo blocks. What he's good at is trading players for draft picks.

Right, forgot. But, yeah, they are what they are. A bubble team. How does Jones or Drouin change that in the next 2-3 years?
- John Jaeckel

Either player will be in the NHL by 2014.

regardless, it's irrelevant, because Florida is stacked with young studs and could trade some much worse prospects than the 2nd overall pick for a better package than what's being offered here in a B+ prospect, third line center, and a second pairing defenceman.

Hell, he could sign one of those pieces (3LC), trade for another with one of his many prosects (2LD), and still have a better prospect out of the #2.

Just a silly discussion.

They can celebrate however they want - but don't they get it yet that everyone has a camera on their cell phone, and every picture will be made public at some point?

Especially with Deadspin.....no more stories about Patrick Kane choking college girls who don't want to hook up with him.

He's also 28 and a proven talent.

Lets see if any of these prospects pan out before we just decide to deal a legit top 2 pairing d man.

Tell me you aren't advocating a potential top 4 of....Keith, unproven commodity, Hammer, and Oduya......

- SteveRain

No....a lot depends on the development of Clendening and Johns. You don't draft and develop for no reason. Two seasons from now they could both be the number 2 pairing on defense. A lot depends on development but if Leddy is moved Clendening takes over his slot....probably next year or like Saad he could be rushed up this year.

Their D was poop and I think their goaltending needs upgrading for them to even be considered next year's winner. And I agree on Malkin and Cindy.
- Q...argh

Another reason I am surprised they are favorites. Shero publicly comes out in support of his G tandem - after this PO that is crazy. They have some great D men coming up so they will be fine there but probably not next year. See what Letang brings.

I don't care what his cap hit is, he's a dirty player. Even if you LIKE dirty players, the zebras don't condone that crap with the Hawks ... anyone still think that Carcillo was a good acquisition?
- Q...argh

Dirty?

I haven't seen Simmonds play a lot. Seems like a PF prototype to me. Really broke out after going to Philly. Hard fighter and hitter - sticks up for his teammates in the games I have seen.

Love to see him out there with Toews.

I just havetoknow what this does to our Bollus Going Away party???

Here I'm thinking Bolland was either going to shank that puck OVER the cage or has been his MO, put it along the ice where Rask would have been credited with a "miraculous" save by reaching out withe the paddle and having 36 put it right into the fat part.

And then the best part as his stick and gloves were being held by Boychuk was Bolland pulling his hands out of the gloves after he scores!!!

I will still swear I've seen his mug shot at the local post office . . .

- savvyone-1

OH...it's still on....I think that day is coming VERY SOON.

Everyone here knows I can't stand Bolland....so there I am Monday night, beyond buzzed, watching with friends...and imagine the razzing I took when Bolland scored.

I said the same thing....amazing he didn't whiff, fire it into Rask, or air mail the net....very happy none of the above happened...

You knew it would be Bolland.....

Yep. What they think they can get for greasy lou is high comedy. I seem to recall they thought they were going to get Toronto's #1, Gardiner, and another good player from Toronto for greasy Lou.

The Oiler blogger is also funny too with some of his trade ideas.

Seeing as my brother and I had no interest in "sleeping" with him (and still don't ), I don't see how that diminishes what he did for us in any way, nor what he did for the team. Those allegations came out afterward. I find your comparing Bobby Hull to a multiple murderer who got off because of "jury nullification" and is currently sitting in prison for other violent felonies, and to an accused NFL murderer, to be in rather bad taste.

My post wasn't directed solely at you but also the opinions of some of the posters here as well.

But, since you commented...where exactly did I put words in anyones mouth?

Read your blog from game 3 of the series...it says pretty much verbatim my last point. You have repeatedly made those comments about bowman and the front office for over a year now. You have said a few times about the Hawks brand of play not being successful in the playoffs.

Exactly where did I say something that wasn't true?

- Bhawks35

It's called Hockey Buzz not Hockey Worship. If you're looking to erect a monument to the infallible management team you should go to Ian's thread. Gillis never makes a bad decision there.

This roster proved all the critics wrong but even the FO admits it can get better.

Again, I won't be surprised if we are tipped off at rally that he's going to be a Hawk going forward.

Short of someone offering him 5 mil plus over multiple years, I have no worry that he is a Hawk.

- vabeachbear

That would be great. I am sure his agent is begging him to hold off.

John Druce anyone? Bickell is better and the cap being lowered will probably prevent it but what better candidate to see an insane number from some GM.

No the allegations of him beating his wife began when he was a player.....my father used to tell me stories of the old man wirtz bailing him out of jail and there were even articles in the paper. Bobby Hull is a piece of crap. OJ Simpson was just a wife beater before he actually killed his ex wife.....so the comparison is fair.

Yep. I saw him take more than a few cheap shots at Hawks players when he was in the conference, and I've heard others voice the same opinion of him as a player. In the same vein, I'd want nada to to with Raffi Torres (no, I don't put Simmonds in Raffi's "dirty" league, Raffi is Emperor of Filth), either. Clean hits and sticking up for team mates is one (GREAT) thing, but dirty play, I can do without, thanks.
