At the same time you don't over value your players and allow them to get old without trying to get something of value in return. Great organizations have the ability to think big picture and don't allow themselves to fall in love with their players like us fans do. That is why you draft players, that is why you develop them and prepare them to replace any players you may trade away. The great detroit teams would never miss a beat if they traded someone or a player retired......the hawks want the window to be open for as long as possible.....you do that by making tough decisions but smart ones as well.....

Right but what gets me are these players that strap their team with these crazy cap hits. Look at the Pens, because Malkin and Crosby have seriously hit hits they will have to possibly let Letang walk because there will be zero dollars available for him. So my point is, don't these players take into consideration what their potential "new deal" will do to their team. Or are they 99% of the time just looking at the money?
- Fooseshark

Malkin and Crosby are not team players. They have proven that on the ice the last 2 playoffs.

The way that team will win is surround those 2 with hard workers not other aspiring stars like Letang. Even then it is tenuous. Hard to believe they are favorites for the cup next year right now.

Simmonds has a 4mil cap hit and Couturier is at 1.3 and e'll be expecting a raise in 2 years...Don't see the flexibility...Hammer needs to be re-upped but it will be at the cost of Oduya before Seabrook...by the way, loved te way Oduya played this season, was definitely worth the 2 picks
- captainserious

Simmonds has a very reasonable cap hit of $4m thru 2020. Couturier is on his entry deal. Gives you a potential #2 and is only RFA in 2 years. You add space, youth and fortify top 6 forward depth along with subtracting salary, injury risk/age.

Not advocating this now just pointing out pros.

Aliu was a 2nd round project and Beach was not considered a sure thing - he was considered a reach by some in a very good draft.

Seabs would need to bring established players back or a 1-5 pick.

After his SCF hard to even consider.

I'll take Seabs and his money vs Hossa and his money for the next 5-6 years.

Hopefully, you agree on that.

He's earned it with his work this year...OUTSTANDING GRUNT WORK ALL YEAR...and the penalty shot goal vs Detroit was HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE

You know before this would have bothered me....not at all. Same with Kane. I'm sure Deadspin is stalking him....

Fact is, today's athlete is beyond scrutinized. Bobby Hull was/is/still a raging alcoholic, pummeled his wife, yet people treat him like a god.....Yet, Kane and all these other guys are basically doing the same thing but don't have the MEDIA protection that was there before...In the past, unless a press member hated you, you never heard crap...Now, everyone has a camera and the internet to expose you on a dime.

I hope they all get hammered, celebrate safely, and enjoy themselves. Could care less what the moral police has to say about it.

Aliu was up and down this year with the Flames. Still looked like a complete head case late in the year and was sent down.

He looked like the next Buff preseason of 09 I think. A shame he blew it.

mmm, not so sure.

Sopel has been an "analyst" on the NBC news here locally -- honestly, he looks fit as a fiddle. Was never a great skater but knows the game and was almost always very good positionally.

I'll say this -- I'd take Sopes any day of the week and twice on Saturday and Sunday over Sheldon Brookbank (or Montador - yuck ) for my D pairings. Heck, I'm pretty sure Sopes would have been a good guy to have around Leddy (as Rozy was).

thanks....

If camera phones were around when Chelios, Probert, Roenick, and MJ were in their prime imagine the public opinion on them?

Same with Hull.....

Can't live in a bubble.....the one thing that I would like to see is that the hawks give Kane some security. There are plenty of people looking to scam and make false claims based on a picture taken out of context...would be nice to have a gigantic beast put his thumb mrs groupie when he's enjoying himself.

Seriously....

Anyone who disagrees....put yourself with in a situation, single, well known, worth millions, and have hot @ss women literally throwing themselves at you.....yeah, I'm sure those guys would just sip tonic water and walk away. Please.

All these gossip sites like TMZ, deadspin, make huge coin taking pictures and exposing guys based on claims.

Two different disscussion....his contract is not that bad which means he would be attractive to someone looking for his type of skill set.

If Bolland is on the block for his $3.3 cap hit to play the 4th line, no way they keep AHL Rusty making $3.1 to ride the "Rockford Rocket Busline"
