They don't really have time to wait, though. If Leddy isn't signed by the afternoon of the draft, they have to trade him. Hawks already don't trust Sheehy, so they need Leddy signed, sealed and delivered. Otherwise, they have to trade him. - QStache
My guess is the Hawks give the minimum QO and it is up to Sheehy from there.

So, will Henrik Karlsson get his name on the cup because he backed up in the first round? - beingaflamesfan
Probably not. The rule is that you have to play half of the regular season games OR one finals game. The team can petition to have him added, as the Bruins did in '11 with Marc Savard (who was hurt most of the year), but I think that's unlikely.

Donovan McNabb's nephew to boot - John Jaeckel
True story, I used to play with Donovan McNabb when we were ages 5 - 10. He and his family lived across the street from my Dad in Dolton. I was a few years older, but we would play football, baseball and basketball when I would go stay with my Dad.
Did not know him in high school. He had a great family. |

Dale Tallon has this issue:
He has been in FL for 3-4 years, no playoff appearances. ANYONE he drafts this year is probably 2 years minimum away from the NHL and another year or two from being a legitimate difference maker. If he could obtain a (healthy) Dave Bolland, Nick Leddy and a prospect for that pick, and he feels those guys can plus his present roster—there is both a hockey and political/career argument for it. - John Jaeckel
They made the playoffs last year. |

If tallon already turned down the three calagry picks and vanek for the pick I am sure the Hawk package is more enticing????
The top four teams are not trading out....if you want to start at a Carolina rumor START there...they have no use for a centre like the two that may be there or the defenders so it they are not completely in love with importing Valery Nichushkin, then they may be moving out. - wiz1901
If Dale can get a top prospect TT, that is 2-3 years out with the skillset of Kane, a #3C with character he knows in Bolland who has played with Versteeg and Campbell, and Kopecky. In addition to landing a top 4 dman in Leddy, this helps the Panthers out immediately and provides added depth which helps you win the cup as we just saw. A deep team full of character is the key, he did it enrout the 2010 cup team, and is working on the same model in FLA. So yes, I think Vanek may not have the character he wants, 3 calgary picks do nothing to help his club now, I think Dale is taking action to make a run next year and Bolland and Leddy would reunite them with past teammates and upgrade their depth. He can add 3 assets for one, maybe 2, and still have that prospect to develop for the next 2-3 years (TT) |

Hey Whiz, do you think that Samuel Morin will be around by the time the 'Hawks pick? I've seen mocks that have him as high as lottery-worthy, and some that have him in the mid-twenties. J.T. Compher is another name that I really like. |

I think that would be a terrible decision. Absolutely terrible. A minimum QO gets the Hawks less than nothing and gets it for them in a draft that isn't as good as this one. If that is what Bowman does, you send me that GIF you were sporting all season because he certainly will have "FAILED" in that scenario. |

Not as much as EVERYBODY here thinks....
they might help fill those missing picks.
I don't think you find a team that takes Bolland for a pick switch.
Leddy I still believe, IS NOT on the market, until tehre are POSITIVE Sheehy is completely ridiculous.
Bickell goes before Leddy and if Leddy signs , Bickell may stay. - wiz1901
No way they afford Leddy and Bickell then also keep Crow and Hammer next year, making Kane and Toews fit after that.
If Leddy doesn't sign for 2-3 years at 2 million or less, he is gone. |

Bolland, Leddy, and TT to Florida for their 1st pick and Matthias.

Correct....and he didn't seem to be enjoying himself that much this year as he has been in the past. I think he knows...Not a matter of IF but WHEN.....What could have been for Dave Bolland if his back wasn't such a concern.... |

It also helps that the revenue from parking and concessions (particularly liquor concessions) at the UC is "hidden" and not counted as revenue for the Hawks, even though the Hawks are certainly responsible for that revenue. Wirtz is making money hand over fist on the Hawks yet he's still able to demonstrate annual losses, which I'm sure helped the owners' case when it came to the CBA.
I do agree with you that they could charge more for tickets, though as a STH from the days before the Hawks got good again, it's tough to swallow the big annual increases. - flahawkfan
Owners of professional sports teams wouldn't stay in the business of owning professional sports teams if they didn't make money. I'm sure the Hawks are profitable, but clever accounting makes it look like they aren't. I've often heard that Dollar Bill charged the Blackhawks very high rent for the United Center, just to transfer profit from the team to the stadium, which are technically separate businesses. I wouldn't be suprised if Rocky continued to do the same. The first rule of business is to never let on how successful or unsuccessful you really are.

If there's a question about work ethic about Jones, it looks to be the opposite for Nurse. There was a piece on the NHL Network on him. Kid is a total package of size, strength, skating, pure work ethic, and classy. |

No interest in Matthias. I think I saw he has a 48% FO career. Big, yes. Big name? No. Would rather take a chance on Shore over Mattias. Not feeling the love towards Matthias at all, does not appear to play big, and I think Kruger is more effective then Matthias |

EK...what is your assessment of Stanton's skating ability? Would he get walked wide at the NHL level or can he hang? I've only seen him a few times, didn't get the feel he wasn't capable, but he's certainly no Paul Coffey either. - kwolf68
He's no Paul Coffey, that's for sure!
I think he's good enough to keep up in the NHL. There are going to be times where he will get beat, but I think he'll do alright in general. |

JJ, I strongly suspect two things about the Bolland situation: 1. Mgmnt has probably communicated his likely fate and 2. Bolland would rather remain a Hawk
- grinder10
I think That Versteeg and ladd and Buff all knew that there was a very good chances the numbers did add up to them staying and were not necessarily told you are gone, but that the etam had some did decisions and they MIGHT effect them...

I am thinking selling tickets comes into play here as well. Jones and especially Drouin are going to put butts in the seats there. They need that as much or more than anything. - ilinkhawk
In Miami? Has anyone there heard of Jones and / or Drouin?
These aren't hard-core hockey fans down there - and all the other teams in the city need to be championship ready to draw.
Tallon needs a winner now. |
