If only we could get Carolina's 5th pick with a trade and still keep the 11th. That would be so great. Read/Coburn or Read/Mez for 5th?

He put his well being on the line for his teammates. Maybe not the smartest thing in the world, but the kind of respect that type of action has in the Bruins room is immense, immeasurable.

We have players dying/killing themselves because they get addicted to the pain killers that keep them in the line-up.

But yes, play on.

I comprehend what he brings to the table. Just not willing to throw 4m at a guy with such a small sample size.

If they signed him to 4m that would take away organizational flexibility. Already too many guys making 4mil as it is IMO.

- Flyersgod

No it wouldn't. In fact in my opinion, they should re-sign Read before they re-sign Couturier and B Schenn.

Yes. I also understand the difference between a player who signed his deal as an RFA. And a player who has one year left and will be a pending UFA.

Well that is good news.

Trading one of Coburn or L Schenn would be a risky move. Two older guys in Streit and Kimmo. Two injury concerns with Mezzy and Grossman.
- Stinkfitz

Well if it was me, I wouldnt stop there. I would trade Coburn plus 11th overall for 5th overall, then trade Couturier or Laughton for a young up and coming D-man and move Meszaros and our 2nd for maybe a late 1st.

Been there, done that.

When mine was real young, he hated when I had sports on.

Now, he'll watch the Flyers with me and if I walk out of the room, he'll tell me what I missed.

Don't even propose a trade for a top 5 selection without Coots, Schenn or the 11th.

That's why you have Team Doctors, trainers, GM's, team execs. To stop a player who shouldn't be playing even if he wants to. I say this with the understanding that I don't know what his medical situation was, or if playing put him in more danger.

I'd tear up the Streit contract. Trade Mez and Grossman ASAp. Stick wioth Mason as the number one, sign a backup and let this team grow together. Streit does not make them a true cup contender. Grossman and Mez are each a hit away...I'd let GUS and OL play as much as possible. I'm so tired of trying to win the cup every year instead of being patient and building a team that is truely good enough to win it all for a lot of years....

Then we trade him. Have to look down the road. Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Schenn, and Coots are the future of this offense. You can't afford to pay all of them and have Read making 4m a year.

Unless we cut back on $ for defense. Which i'm fine with.

Yes, they can afford it.

I don't think it takes from organizational flexibility. $4m isn't going to be a huge cap hit for a player of his caliber moving forward.
- BulliesPhan87

I see him as a 3rd line winger. Lacks the size and grit for my liking to be a top 6 forward.

Can he get 4m? Sure. Whether he is worth it, is all based in opinion regardless. So its a moot point.

I think he's more than just a 3rd line winger, by quite a bit. Agree to disagree, I guess.

Mez is another trade option, and i feel Grossman will bounce back fine. Plus we have Marc Andre Bourdon who was solid before last years concussion issues. Brandon Manning has shown some talent and Lauridsen displayed some 4th line talent at the end of year

What about Coburn? I agree about GUS and OL, they both were solid. I would even give time to Marc Andre Bourdon

Someone call Darren Dreger. MJL can foresee the growth rates of current NHL players and their future contracts.

Hurry before its too late. We need to get him on TSN.

You need size and grit to play on the 3rd line. So if he can play on the 3rd line, then he can play on other lines also. He has the skills and all around game to play on any line. In any situation.

I don't see the Streit signing as a win right now kind of move. And while I like the idea of playing youth, I don't think Lauridsen is ready for full time NHL duty.

I don't need to foresee the growth rates of current NHL players. I know the Flyers cap situation inside and out. I also know about certain rules that are new to the CBA that the Flyers can take advantage of. Read signed to a contract is more valuable as a trade chip, then Read who is an impending UFA.

Just a hunch, don't think Bergeron will end up like Boogaard, Belak, or Rypien.

Sure, there's a gap of information about Bergeron in particular.

But the harrowing tale of Derek Boogaard (and countless others) speaks volumes about the role of Team Doctors, trainers, GM's, team execs in what's best for the player vs. what's best for the organization.

How so? I would say he was our worst defenseman last year and could get good trade bait, having said that, he is entering his prime and is 28
