i have to think that homer's going to go short term on the next goalie. and by short term i mean 2 years or less. can't see lu wanting that, so even if he's a CBO, not sure he's a fit here for that reason.

someone mentioned khabby earlier. i could live with that. emery might be willing to come back. at this point, i don't even really care, as long as we don't give up assets (important ones anyway) and don't sign a guy for more than 2-3 years.

I believe he had a skate sever is achilles tendon. Similar to Karlsson injury but much worse.

If they do a medical and say that Emery is healthy, I am ok to bring him in to play alongside Mason for maybe 2 years 2 mil. I'm a big Rayzor fan actually.
- Hextall271

I'm a fan, too, but I think he's going to get more $ than that. I would be okay with him at the price you show, but not much more at all. Those hips might lie.

I don't know about you guys, but this off season for us is gonna be as surprising as when we traded Carter and Richards. All of us are scrambling trying to think of what to do. So far we have two big needs: Defense and now a starting goalie (or platoon goalie with Mason). What players on our current team do you think will be traded? I am thinking Coburn, Read, Meszaros. Then again, its always a possibility we trade Schenn or Couts (I hope not). I can't get my head wrapped around a single thing we are going to possibly do this off season because the possibilities seam endless at the time. Thoughts and opinions?

Shelling out big money and years to Luongo who is 34, would be asinine. If he's brought in here the Bryzgalov fiasco has taught Snider and Holmgren nothing.

I'm not sure what they want to do with the second goalie. It seems like everyone wants someone who can start in case Mason implodes, but not someone to expensive that he will be the starter over Mason. I think Nabokov may be the best bet.

I think Emery probably makes the most sense. Just wish he didn't have the injury history.

I don't think signing Luongo to a two or three year contract would show they've learned nothing. Of course, that requires Luongo to want a shorter term contract.

Why did you stop following?
- PhillySportsGuy

Work switched over to 4-10 hour shifts, and I commute 2.5 hours a day. By the time I got home the idea of stressing myself out to watch the team not show up or compete didn't appeal to me. On top of that, I lost a lot of time with my son and I'd rather spend it with him then watch the Flyers. (He's too young to care about the Flyers yet. But he will.)

Either him or a reasonably priced (no more than $4m), short term (3-4 max) Luongo.

I really don't see anyone else out there that interests me at all.

Once they trade Mez or Coburn, they will have a ton of cap space. The Flyers are never one to leave open cap space. They also don't have a huge need at any position other than goaltender. I would like them to add to the team, but they could go out and play now with the roster they currently have.

I would not mind a 1 year deal for any of them. See how the goaltending shapes up next off-season. Who knows, there are a lot of good goalies possible to hit the market next year. Imagine if Lundquist doesnt like Vanuelt (sp) system or coaching. Could be bye-bye King Henrik.

The impression I have right now is that no one is untouchable. I'm guess Coburn and/or Mezzy is/are moved. Read would have to stay because of his cap hit unless we got 2 players back at a similar cap hit. I see Read as a player who will get a payday and never live up to it. He's a good 3rd line guy though.

He's 34 and on the downside. He fell out of favor in Vancouver and became a distraction there. I doubt he's willing to take a two year deal. If he was, at a modest cap hit I would have some interest, but I don't see that being a likely scenario.

Are you saying any player bought out may be claimed by another team before they hit UFA? I don't think that is true for CBA buy-outs. If that was the case I don't think Briere would hit the market.
- youarewrong

No every player has to be offered to the League on Waivers before he can be bought out. Cart before the horse. That is how buyouts work. Now there could be a new rule where it's different for a CBO versus a nomal buyout. But I'm not aware of that.

You slyly left out offense to make your comparison to Pronger and that's what made him so dangerous. Nurse is much more likely to develop into a purely physical D man, and theres nothing wrong with that. But Pronger he will never be. I dont think another purely physical D man is what this team needs. I'd much rather take Ristolianen or Pulock over him if all three were on the board still at 11.
- hereticpride

I don't think it's a foregone conclusion...he had a 300% increase in offensive production in his second Jr. season. He went from 10 pts to 41 (12 G 29 A) while not being the featured offensive blueliner. While there are no guarantees, there are many examples of players with those kinds of numbers in their second yr in Jr. that develop a nice offensive game at the NHL level. I think he's going to put up 50+ pts next season when Sproul leaves, giving him more offensive oportunities.

Scouts seem to think he has the upside:

"Right now, Seth is a lock, but five years down the road, you're going to be talking about Jones and Nurse in the same sentence. It's very hard to define. There's not going to be a big difference between the two players." - Dan Marr - Director of Scouting for NHL Central Scouting

"Nurse’s offensive game has really blossomed this season. He showed off his big time point shot and one timer, scoring 12 goals in 69 games. Nurse became really effective at keeping his shot low, getting it through and on net, and generating opportunities for rebounds and tip-ins in front of the net. He also effectively utilizes a good wrist shot and release when he doesn’t have time to load up the slapshot. Nurse has also improved his puckhandling skills, and shows more poise and patience in controlling the play at the blueline. He walks the line well, and uses his lateral mobility to open up shooting and passing lanes. With good vision, and improving passing skills, he is developping his ability as a powerplay quarterback" - Ben Kerr

"Despite 11 goals to date, Carneiro explained that some still question Nurse’s offensive upside — though he added that he’s not one of them.

“The one knock that you hear about Darnell is about what the high end of his offensive game will be,” he said. “He’s going to be a great shutdown defender, but though he’s in good shape, he hasn’t filled out yet. That offensive game will come — I think he’s got a lot of potential, and I wouldn’t discount his offensive upside." -Victor Carneiro, Greyhound Scout

P.S. This is all likely going to be moot unless the Flyers move up, as I believe Nurse will be a top 10 pick.

That sucks. You should think about getting a sling box or streaming it from your phone. If your job doesn't require a ton of movement. Sometimes if I work late, I will watch the game on my computer while I do work.

I honestly don't think we would ever move Captain Claude (knock on wood), and i pray we don't move simmonds or voracek, both guys are young and have yet to enter prime and both provide great offensiveness to our team. Simmonds is incredible on the boards. guy never falls on the ice! But I agree, maybe moves aren't needed. We have a solid group of forwards who have all displayed their talent in last two seasons: Giroux, Hartnell, Schenn, Voracek, Simmonds, Couts. If we can sign Gagne to a discount contract this season, i think our wingers can bring us some success for this season. Plus we have guys like McGinn and Laughton who looked good for the short time they played. Rinaldo has developed a new style of play (more responsible) and Rosehill has been a great gritty forward
