I wouldn't put Luke on the PP until we have to. I know it sounds nuts but I would split Hartnell and Simmonds. Hartnell is better being used as a screen and deep in the crease imo.

Who did we use last year on the 2nd PP for defense? I thought it was LSchenn?

Any thoughts on the idea of trading Coburn and signing Scuderi to replace him?

The interesting thing comes to PK.

Obviously the D of choice are Timonen, Coburn, Grossman and Schenn as of now.

If one of those guys takes the penalty who jumps in? Guss or Streit?

No idea. I was thinking the same thing.

Not like the Predators to just give up on someone, especially a drafted Dman. I'm growing skeptical.

That being said, maybe there's an internal reason. They have both the contracts of Weber and Rinne to deal with, with the cap falling, remember?

Maybe they're thinking into the not so distant cap-compliancy future? Just speculation....

Depends on what we're trading for, but as far as replacing Coburn with Scuderi I'd rather not.

You would think Isles would be all over that ton of space, they need a goalie and half his salary has been paid already.

We did use Luke Schenn on the second PP but only because Meszaros was hurt all year and Foster was always scratched. You can use Schenn or Coburn, it's just not ideal.

Maybe it's good to give LS PP time so he can develop some offensive game and add alittle hockey IQ?

I doubt it. I don't know if you can magically develop an offensive game, but maybe it helps decision making, idk. I could easily see something like

Hartsy-G-Simmer
Timonen-Voracek

Read-B.Schenn-Gags(UFA)Coots maybe?
Streit-Gusty

Last year the 2nd PP was same forward with Briere tossed in, Read at the point with either Meszy before he got hurt, Foster and Gusty especially late in the year.

I want Gags back as a 3rd line winger. He is good ALL over the ice.

Hartsy-G-Voracek
Simmonds-Schenn-Read/UFA
Gagne-Coots-Read/UFA
Rinaldo-Laughton-Talbot...

Tell ya what, you could have ROBBY BYAN as a 1st/2nd liner and give BSchenn someone to have a breakout year with.

I agree with all of this. There just isn't an easy salution to this D though.
- dingo8urbaby

If Mez is truly healthy and can get back to form, he's a pretty good two way d man who brings puck moving and a good shot...Coburn should have a bounceback year, so maybe we get more from him. If Timo and Streit stay healthy as well, with Gus, they rovide some nice puck movement and offense...if all that falls into place, the D isn't that bad at all...problem is, I don't think the odds favor all of those players being healthy at one time...tough to see that happening given what we've seen over the years
