I'd love to get him as a UFA if they have their #1 Dman and goalie in place, and can afford his salary at that point.

I can't see trading limited assets for him now with Kimmo gone in 1 yr and Mason the only goalie.

The Flyers don't need a game breaker. What they need is to become a tougher team to play against. A team that plays much better defensively as a team. It needs to figure out the goaltending situation. They need to improve the defense and get more mobility and puck skill back there. Whether that comes from in house, or adding someone. After all that, if they have Cap space and the ability to get it. I'm all for adding a top line Winger or a so called game breaker. But it's far down the list of importance.

We are on the same page here, agree completely

I am very worried about what they are going to do in goal for this season.
I don't love the idea of Mason + a just OK vet back up as the best option.
I have hope for Mason, but to think he can be a reliable #1 for 60%+ of the games, well the evidence is not there for me.

A goalie carousel with Lavi at coach is a bad idea.

I think they need to go with a proven guy in net, and might have to bite the bullet and trade something to get one.

I hope Homer is talking with St Louis and Anaheim and can swing a decent deal there.
Lu on a buyout is my second choice, but that will likely cost 5M+ in cap space, although like the Striet deal, they keep all their players/picks.

Holmgren said everyone but Mez has been cleared. He expects Mez to get the "go ahead" by end of July.

Don't forget, they are more than likely going toove meszaros's too, so there's going to be cap space abound.

During the draft you will be surprised at who drops to us at 11. During the draft you will be more surprised the flyers didn't take said player. After the draft you will kick yourself thinking you shouldve known it was going to be max domi all along.

This is exactly what I think is going to happen.

How can they move Meszaros if he's still hurt? Before the start of next season maybe?

God if Nichuskin is available at 11 it would almost be a no brainer....

He'd be one I'd probably sprint to the podium to make the pick

I know, they have to move a D contract.

But I think Lu is going to get a similar deal to Streit, 4 yrs 21-22M or something.
A lot for a 34 yr old.

My preference is to see if Halak or one of the Annaheim goalies can be traded for a fair deal.

Lu is a good second choice.

Emery is the fall back, but I think it is very risky having Emery/Mason.
It could work out, but could blow up too.

I understand and respect the idea of going with Mason and a cheap back up for a year or two. Saves money, keeps the young guys together.
If it blows up though it will likely cost Homer his job.

I think Holmgren is pretty secure in his job. Things would have to go pretty bad for that to happen.

probably so, but if Mason craps out, and the back up plan is Emery and he gets hurt, yikes.

Do you have a feeling as to what you'd like to see them do with the goalie position?

I don't think holmer wanted that deal. I'll give him a pass on that.

Sigh. Just been thinking a lot lately about the good old boy network as it pertains to the flyers. Snider, broad street bullies, its all gotten so tired

I think if the Flyers miss the playoffs next year, all bets are off, with respect to Homer's job security.

Specifically, not really. I'd like to see them give Mason a legitimate shot. I would not like to see them make a big trade for someone like Miller.

No rules against trading an injured player, as long as the team acquiring him signs off and accepts the injury.

Wow, never knew that. That sure adds a lot more possibilities. I would like to see them get Nichuskin and another 1st round defenseman somehow. I just know that I'm dreaming and it can't be done.

I've seen Gretzky play live. I've seen Lemieux play live. Forsberg has better hands than them both. Honestly, best hands I've ever seen. Datsyuk is up there, probably 2nd before Lemieux.

My favorite Foppa flyers moment was when he scored that sick goal on Lundqvist. Also, when he scored that huge goal against the sabres.

speaking of foppa and injuries, remember this...

Forsberg's spleen was ruptured sometime during Colorado's 5-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings in Game 7 on Wednesday night, but it is unclear when.

Forsberg showed no symptoms before the game and continued his strong postseason with an assist on Chris Drury's tie-breaking goal in the third period. After the game, Forsberg met with reporters and spoke of looking forward to the conference finals against the St. Louis Blues.

"I don't know what I've got," the six-time All-Star center told Lacroix. "I've got too much pain in my stomach. Maybe I drank too much water after the game."

About 30 minutes later, Forsberg, was headed for the emergency room, where tests revealed a ruptured spleen and internal bleeding that required surgery.
