It doesn't really seem logical to buy-out one above-average headcase goalie in order just to spend valuable assets just to bring in another, older, above-average headcase goalie. Doesn't make sense to me.

I will take a dump in my pants in the middle of work if we give up Coburn, Read, and the 11th overall pick....

I will then drive to Jersey and push Homer off his bike and burn down the WFC.

I will set my Giroux Jersey on file, during the first pick of the entry draft, and fling myself down the stadium stairs.

To quote the horse on Rin and Stimpy...."No sir.... I don't like it."

Well, the cap risk is hedged a bit.

If the Flyers acquired Miller and didn't like him.....they just let him walk next year. Miller has every reason to have a good year this year, financially speaking.

I still think that rumor had waaay too much going in Buffalo's direction for a goalie they don't want anymore.

- johndewar

But what if he decides to walk next year (Philly media doesn't exactly encourage people to stay). Then we've given up 2 very valuable assets, and one of our best defenders, just for the possibility at 1 year of good goaltending? Doesn't seem right.

You'd really wanna give B Schenn for a 29 year old?
- JAKEw1234

For vanek yes. Then they could flip hartnell to a power forward needy team like Vancouver. So your not really getting older if you get a young asset for hartnell

Maybe its for Miller and Vanek. Or maybe the first round is the 2015 first round only if Miller resigns.

You could assume if we traded Hartnell to a power-forward needy team, that we wouldn't be getting a physical young player in return. That would be contradictory for the team trading for Hartnell. So now that we have Vanek and some soft young player, how do we compete physically? We as a team just got considerably softer from those moves.

Keep in mind you have Simmonds still and possibly McGinn (although not in Hartnell's league) but you asked about grit...
That said I think Hartnell will kick some butt next year.

But losing Hartnell and B Schenn in order to add Vanek and a soft young player hurts our grit considerably.

Vanek doesn't play the same game but he's the same size as hartnell. You can address it in ufa. What if Vancouver offered their first rounder at the draft?

Ryan Malone, morrow might be cheaper options if flyers play their cards

Well then, we can all bask in the cap space that Miller's absence will create.

Oh, and don't forget: That deal, as rumored, doesn't sound like a deal I would do. I would not throw in the 11th pick, period.

I was just trying to express that I wouldn't wring my hands too much over Miller's cap hit.

I'd probably fire him first, just so we're not caught in any technicality that forces us to keep a maligned, crippled burn victim in the GM seat.
