Thanks, Jaromir, for a fun 2011-2012, but good luck in your next city!

Not interested in Jagr.

Edmonton blog mentioned that Edmonton is on Coburn's short list of teams he can be traded for. Does anyone know what the other teams are? Is Carolina on the list?

Exactly what the defense needed. Someone that can move the puck, and beat opponents to the puck on the back end.

- youarewrong

I disagree, they don't need another 36 year old so called puck mover. They need good all around players that are younger and can be a part of the process.

I'm with you on this. Our forwards are getting younger, our D is getting older. When its time to replace our D, we will need to trade our forwards in their prime to get what we want, or pray we get free agents.

On the flip side, we didn't give up much of anything to get him. So I guess its not all that bad.

Cap recapture is a bigger problem for Vancouver, not the team that he is traded to since the contact is heavily front load and Vancouver was the team that benefited from his low cap hit. A team that trades for lu at worst case scenario will be on the hook for less than $2 million aav a season if he were to retire early.
- moylander

It is a bigger issue for Vancouver, but it's an issue I wouldn't want to face at all.

I'll be interested to see if this positive tone keeps up after we witness Streit get beat wide and out-muscled by opposing forwards, make a few Matt Carle-esque turnovers right in front of his own net, and fires a few pucks right into opponents' shin-pads leading to breaks the other way.

If he were anything close to Kimmo-level, the Islanders wouldn't have hidden him on their third-pairing and limited his exposure to hard matchups.

Small, slow, old... right now, he's still capable of eating some minutes at ES, but as time goes on, he'll likely be confined strictly to PP specialist duty.

We dont need to trade with Edmonton

Ryan Whitney is a free agent we could easily sign if he is on Homer's radar.

Hemsky would be the guy I'm targeting even with his injury problems. Especially if Edmonton eats half his salary. The guy is just ultra talented and could have a big season! We already know his days in Edmonton are over and he can be obtained on the cheap! But he is def a gamble.

Paajarvi is their only other player (RFA) I'd look at.

Id be very wary of Whitney. Edmonton is in need of help on the back end, and they are passing on him.

NHL teams really can't afford to carry dmen that aren't able to perform a dependable, smart first pass anymore... the ones that can't have been flushed out of the league since the previous lockout, or have been converted to forward (John Scott).

There's not a guy on the Flyers' current blueline that isn't capable of making that first pass, including Grossmann. Of course, some guys are more adept at it than others, but there's no Luke Richardsons on this team.

- Tomahawk

I can't disagree more. Sure at the NHL level you have to be able to make some passes, but the fact is, moving the puck out of the defensive zone was this teams major issue last season. And with Timonen being one of the few guys capable of this retiring next year, we will still need another one.
