Fans in TBay have never really like Malone from the start. He basically has been swimming in trade rumours since he got there...kinda makes me wonder if he mostly just sucks.
- Jeropotato

He's like Penner, was overpaid. While Penner was lazy, Malone had injury problems.

Worse case scenario you buy him out next summer.

I think what we would do is give him 1 more year then other teams would. At 34, 3 years as opposed to 2 goes a long way.

Think it's how we got Belanger and Eager.

- Lahey

I think he gets 3 years minimum wherever he goes...this is his chance, he's going big.

Would count against cap as he could not be amnestied. His salary isn't high enough.

Unless he goes to a good team. I can't see contenders giving too many years.

Lupol didn't perform here-at all. Not sure if it was because he had better line mates in Anaheim or because expectations at the time for unrealistic.
I remember going to a game and Horc and he bumped into each other in the offensive zone about 3 times. Buddy commented on how it looked like Horc and Lupol must have poop in their pants they were playing so bad.

That's an old wives tale, only the original buyout amnesty period had a cap on dollars. Simply because they didn't want borderline players not playing in the NHL. They knew guys with bigger salaries would get a 2nd shot.

Either way, it's not like the cap would cripple us.

well, tsn states in edm franchise history of 24 years, never ever selected a d-man with the first pick. if history follows itself, monahan, lindhom, or nichushkin could be the pick.
- deks1

Kevin Lowe (21st, 1979)
Paul Coffey (6th, 1980)
Jim Playfair (20th, 1982)
Jeff Beukeboom (19th, 1983)
Selmar Odelein (21st, 1984)
Francois Leroux (19th, 1988)
Jason Soules (15th, 1989)
Jerff Petry (45th, 2006)
We've picked 10 dmen in the first round (Lowe, Coffey, Playfair, Beukeboom, Odelein, Soules, Stajduhar, Descoteaux, Plante, Klefbom) and 2 goalies (Grant Fuhr, Devan Dubnyk).

Fernando performed in the playoffs and was a fan favorite, illness ran him out, not the fans.

Pisani's performance fell due to severe diarhea and a back injury. He was also a bit of douche when he lived next door to my bfff.

Fans were riding him hard even though we knew he was (frank)ed. Your family could be killed in a car crash on the way to a charity event and the fans would still give you a hard time to why you aren't playing at your best.

doesn't just apply to locals.

I guess the real stat was "The Oilers haven't used a 1st round pick which was also the first round pick of the draft since 1989".

Interesting, but maybe not too useful. They picked a dman every year for a better part of the 80s.

You are correct. The $3 mill minimum only applied to the accelerated buyouts that were used at the beginning of this season.

Of course I was correct. I'm hardly wrong.

Side note, anyone here Vinny was going to Toronto only to be bought out and re-signing in TB?

Thanks. Do any of you believe that Horc will be bought out? I still think he's going to be traded or remain an Oiler.
