Lu sat in on Tort's first press conference and Torts said having two goalies stinks!
Glad Philly is not my team, as an Isles fan I'm used to slow evolution but give Philly credit for spending their deep pockets to give the fans a winner.
Compared to MLB contracts, these buyout numbers are low and consider the Philly fan base etc. |

He has to wave his no trade clause if he is going to be bought out?

I think I have an idea, hear me out.
Flyers told the Canucks they want Luongo, but not the contract. Flyers tell Gillis, if the Canucks buy out Luongo, the Flyers will reimburse the Canucks 50% (or some other $$$) for doing so and will give the Canucks a draft pick +. Canucks discussed with Luongo and he has agreed to waive no trade clause on condition he is getting bought out and will sign with the Flyers.
Do I get a gold star?? - CanuckforLife
Then that would be a trade with Vancouver retaining 50% of the contract. |

Some people mentioning Hiller and Ryan to Philly... A) Why get rid of their star goaltender? B) You speculated that return would not include a goalie when all they would have left is an unproven Fasth (One 'mini' season is unproven in my eyes) C) Why would they add a star winger like Ryan on top of that for said compensation.... Couturier is good, but not a star. Ryan puts up way more points and is more valuable. The ducks are not morons, despite them gift wrapping Lupul and Gardiner for the leafs... Wake up and smell the brew boys! Philly made some poor investments and are now paying for it. Hiller will likely not be moved, and Ryan will get a hefty price or will stay. No need to rush a guy out who puts up points like he does. They finished 2nd in the west... why rush to change things so dramatically? It was a short season, they will get fair trade value or try again in a valid, full season. Good luck to Philly and their fans, they're gonna need it! - gardinerfan
I, a ducks fan, brought it up. We are a budget team and need to shed salary after signing getz/perry. Yes, Fasth is unproven but we have the goalie depth to make up for losing hiller. Also ryan wants to anchor his own line and hates playing with the twins. No way we can resign him and might as well sell him while his value is high.
Ever since we traded andy mcdonald we've never had a second line center. We believe Couturier could be that guy. Obviously the deal needs to be sweetened a little more but it's a trade where both teams could improve. |

Sean Couturier for Bernier.. the CAP dollars would work. Leaves Philly with Giroux and Schenn for their 1 & 2 center spots.
Flyers go with Bernier and Mason. |

Philly should strengthen their defense and let Mason be their starter in goal. He is a rising star judging from what I have seen from him so far. |

I don't see any situation where Vanvouver just hands him over for free. If they were that desperate then they would have moved him to Toronto at the trade deadline when there was legit assets on the table. - gdsmack267
Gillis asked for Scrivens and a 2nd and Nonis hung up on him. 3 times in fact.
There were never any assets on the table at the deadline.

Sorry, let me clear this up, I may have not got my point right. Luongo does not have to waive his no trade clause to get bought out. Lets say Gillis says to Luongo that Philly wants you, but not the contract. They have agreed to cover 50% of the cost to buy you out with the Canucks covering the other 50%. Gillis then tells Luo, for this to happen you have to agree to sign with Philly and only Philly once you have been bought out. Perhaps the Canucks get 2 second round picks and assistance buying Luongo out, Philly gets Luongo who they sign to a REASONABLE 2-3 year deal.
Makes sense to me....maybe only to me lol. |

What this means is Philly is going to buy out Luongo FOR Vancouver and then re-sign him as a UFA. - TeeVee
erm... Philly is buying out Briere and Bryz. Only get 2.
also. what? |
|
|
|
Off course it makes more sense to get Ryan/Hiller than trading for that horrible contract of Luongo. You're an idiot if you think it is a good deal. - Orpik44
oh god, you didn't think that was serious did you?

Why would it make no sense for Philly? A nice cap hit.. and he is WAYYYYYYYY better than Bryz.
Bryz contract is an absolute disaster.. Lu's is just not good. Canucks may retain some dollars on the contract too.. who knows. - kneughter
Seriously? bring in a guy with ten years left on his deal at 5.3 per to replace the buy they just bought out who was going to get 5.6 for 7 more years? Yeah that makes perfect sense.

If you're asking about the "twins" that's what we call getz and perry here. Regarding ryan wants to anchor his own line, the season before the lockout he told the coaching staff he didn't want to play under the twin's shadow. We basically haven't found linemates for him since. |
