Man, Lou and Bryz are gonna be filthy rich mother (frank)ers when the dust settles...

so is holmgren gonna get fired for gutting his core to sign bryz and then buying him out, or...?
- MetroidPrime

I like Homer and direct my disdain at Snider as the main cause for most of the crazy sh*t that goes down in Philly...I don't see the team winning it all until he's gone and a new leadership regime comes in and cleans house (Homer included)...

I'm curious to see what their new deals will look like on top of the buy out money...

It is still pushing the buyout to another team, when there will be a cap hit that will be assessed as it will not be a compliance buyout.

Luongo's contract is not a problem when you talk about cap hit. The problem is how long it is, and for how old he is going to be.

There will be penalties for any team that holds his current contract at some point. Why take that on, when Vancouver will almost certainly have to buy him out if you don't take the contract from them? Why not get the player to a good deal/cap hit without the term?

It is Vancouver's problem, not some other NHL team/GM's.

I will be AMAZED if they are able to dump it on someone else. And by amazed, I mean completely shocked that a GM is THAT dumb.

- carcus

Well, Vancouver can now, as part of a trade, retain some annual salary. But I think that puts Vancouver is a bad spot. I may be mistaken (I have not read the new CBA) but I think that would leave them on the hook for other penalties down the road.

I still think there is a situation out there... in Jersey or Tampa where there would be some serious consideration. Although I understand Jersey is quite poor at the moment so they may be out. But if Philly thinks that they may lose any opportunity to get him after a buyout (after all... they get 11th option of saying yes or no) they may do the unthinkable and trade for him. I mean, the Flyers organization has made some crazy moves in the past 3 or 4 years bringin big names and trading them or, as of today, buying them out.

But if the Canucks cannot complete a trade, I am certain he would get picked up on waivers. Failing that, a buy out is a totally acceptable option.

Wow, mark this date down... I am 100% agreeing with a Calgary fan. I need to sit.

This "story" lost all credibility by him doing that.

- Beatle_john

Crazier things have happened.
I am sure we would both also agree Calgary has the best shot at the 2014 #1.....and, that they are now closer to winning a cup than Vancouver is.

The Nucks should start the rebuild NOW. If they can't unload Lu, which I don't think they can, trade Kesler and Burrows and possibly the Sedins. And buyout Lu.

Also, today is a great day. Finally get to chart the path to 2013-14, get excited for the draft. And, of course, new Amon Amarth out today. Grab your meat and mead!

Buyout Lou, sure, Burrows is replaceable but Kesler is the future. He is Torts kins of player and coached him at the Olympics.

A change in team is exactly what the doctor prescribed for Mason. No disrespect to your team but the blue jackets are not the easiest team to play behind. After being traded to the flyers he has found new confidence. If the flyers focus on putting a solid defense in front of him and a reliable back-up goalie then we will be in good shape.
- flyguys96

Since the CBJ are moving east next year I hope you guys roll Mason out there. Your comment about the CBJ not being the easiest to play behind doesn't seem relevant either. Our group of d-men is actually pretty good, and has depth. Seemed to be good enough for Bob this year.

He wasn't the same player last yr. Can this be blamed on injuries, or, mileage. He is only 28 though, so hopefully the former.

Kesler, not the Sedins, is the straw that stirs the Canucks future. If he is 100%, I agree. Keep him, unload the Sedins/Burrows, make him the C.

I would love to have him on the Flames.

If they are smart, they take deals that would pay them next to nothing over the next one or two years. Then they play well, and and earn another big contract. The media/fans in their new market have zero to complain about as they are making peanuts. (from that team) People forget that the are still getting paid a lot of money for the next decade for their buyout, and only look at their current deals.

Image cleansed and they still get paid $$$$$.

I don't see why you are certain about that at all. It is a terrible contract because of the really long term.

Agreed. And, if they want to be on a winner (ie: Pens) they better be ready for a pay cut.

As for Berglund, great news, I hope Calgary gets him after his contract expires.

They might, but they would be smart to take a smaller deal.

Also, if there are several big name goalies on the market, the price goes down because there are other options.

I think the smallness of the deal will be length of years...As in 1-2 for Bryz and 2-3 for Lou...To be brutally honest with you, I think Lou's gonna really make out beyond are wildest expectations if he's bought out...

And, teams who ppl think need(ed) a goalie (Calgary, Toronto, Philly, Florida) won't be in the market. I don't see either getting more than 3 per if bought out. Unless Tampa Bay ponies up more than $396.

If they are smart, they take the 1-2 year deal with a contender for next to nothing. Play great, maybe win a cup, and go from there.

They can make big money, but they are likely going to be on a non-contending team if they do that. Bad move if you ask me for their careers.

Honestly, I see Lu doing this more than Bryz. He already won a cup...probably doesn't care terribly about a pay cut, and at 33, make what you can.

I agree with everything you say in reference to Bryz...Lou's on a totally different level than Bryz...The only reason he's not on another team right now is the length of that contract...Not the $ part...
