You are just pissing in the wind now.

Tell me this.... prior to a buy out... what does Vancouver have to lose by putting him on waivers.

Lastly ---- So many people on this board think (1) Gillis was so stupid creating this contract......... uhhhh. no........... it was ownership who pushed for it and then accepted it. (2) The contract was made under the previous CBA which, at the time, was fine. and (3) and maybe this is most important,.... the Canucks are one of a few teams with pockets so deep they could buy Phoenix only to use them as a farm team. So laugh it up if you think a buyout will hurt the Canucks. Quite the opposite actually.

You may be right. I guess I was responding to those who find some weird joy in the buyout when it really is nothing to the Canucks.

But I do think more than 1 team would be interested in him prior to a buyout. even if it is a trade was between team (a) who offers 2 7th round picks versus team (B) who offers 1 5th

- Beatle_john

But a trade means accepting that contract. And nobody is doing that. It is too big, and for WAY too long.

im not on the side that says luongo is completely untradeable either.

but I do think, even low value picks doesn't get it done alone.
you'll need to take some sort of anchor/bad contract back imo.

and in that case if you do, I actually think you might be able to get a reasonably VALUABLE piece along with it.

but because the nucks most likely don't want to give up one terrible contract for another one that handcuffs them a little less. the best option is probably the buyout.
but like I said, just my opinion

I see the flyers going after hiller and Ryan for some type of package which includes read and coburn and probably their first. This saves them from being locked in and time to evaluate mason a little more
- MrPerfect316

You will need to add more than that and something good to get that type of return.

I didn't read the entire thread so sorry if this was already posted... but some interesting reading for sure...

Randy Miller ‏@RandyJMiller 3h
i just called Bryz. He answered phone and said, "Congratulations to you guys," then hung up on me

Randy Miller ‏@RandyJMiller 3h
I phoned Bryz a second time to ask about #flyers buying him out. He said he doesn't want to talk and hung up on me again.

Randy Miller ‏@RandyJMiller 3h
By the way ... I heard Bryz had 4 blowouts last season with Lavy. And I heard players couldn't stand him.

Randy Miller ‏@RandyJMiller 3h
Bryz personally asked me several times if and when I thought the Flyers would fire Lavy

Randy Miller ‏@RandyJMiller 3h
And #Flyers fans, you might as well know this: Bryz ripped fans to me, ripped his coach and ripped other members of media

Randy Miller ‏@RandyJMiller 3h
And ... I personally witnessed two Flyers people arguing about Bryz in a bar this year. One was destroying him, calling him a cancer

Randy Miller ‏@RandyJMiller 3h
#Flyers opted to pay Bryz $23 million over next 14 years to go away. Pretty telling.

Randy Miller ‏@RandyJMiller 3h
For the record, Bryz LOVES his old Phoenix coach DaveTippett. Part of reason he had issues with us is he wanted us to rip Lavy

Randy Miller ‏@RandyJMiller 3h
For the record, Bryz was told he was on speaker phone with 3 Flyers writers when I called him and he hung up on us.

Randy Miller ‏@RandyJMiller 2h
I can add that I had several long talks with Bryz when he was mad at one media person and upset about being booed.

Randy Miller ‏@RandyJMiller 2h
I am very certain Bryz did not want to stay in Philly due to coach, his system, booing fans, tough media. (what a sandy vagina)

I dont even care Bryz is right. Philly is such a f-u-ck-i-n-g s-h-i-t team. Such poor management honestly. Sign richards and carter, then ship them. cut briere the only guy with integrity on philly. You guys have no respect for your players. Bryz is right.

Not that anyone cares, but per Andy Strickland:

"Sources confirm the St. Louis Blues have agreed in principle on a one-year contract with center Patrik Berglund."

No I am not. Vancouver has nothing to lose by putting him on waivers, besides time. Nobody is picking up his contract. It is WAY too long, and under the new CBA, it is too big of a risk to take.

Maybe some people thought these long contracts were a good idea under the old CBA, but I was never one of them. Especially ones that took the player into their 40's. That was just dumb. Under the old CBA, you could get away with it. But everyone knew the old CBA was ending, and there was no guarantees that they would be able to continue to get away with the same crap in the future CBA. So they were playing with fire, the uncertainty of the future, especially with the players being in their 40's at the end of the deals.

Congrats on your deep pockets. Instead of buying the Coyotes, you will need to pay for Luongo to play somewhere else.

- carcus

So what exactly do you think a new team would need to pay?

He plays for, lets just say St. Louis. for the next three years at 5.3**. You have three very good years for 15.9 million... a good contract which includes playoff revenue which is, in St Louis, about 1.5 million in owner profit. That means a minimum of 2 home dates a year for 6 games at 1.5 which equals 9 million.

(** That is the cap hit, the actual payout per year is over 6)

You then buy out the remainder, which would be 20.3 million and do so at the rate of 50% which means you buy himout at just over 10 million. You have made 9 million in playoff revenue and you are pretty much even.

Now this obviously takes a few things for granted.... would the team make the playoffs... all history and stats say yes.

And also rememeber, the Canucks motivation for trading his is not financial, but Lou needs to be #1 and he has been replaced by CS in that regard

Feel free to tear this apart but do so with facts.

By the way, St Louis was a poor example as they are really not in this. Philly on the other hand makes close to 3 million per playoff home game. At the minimum of 6 games over three years, they would make a profit on the buyout.

Why would anyone do this.... easy.... your team has instant credibly.

This "weird joy" you speak of isn't based on the money it would cost to buy him out. It's based on the fact that Mike Gillis and a good chunk of your fan base thought that Luongo would net you a kings ransom. Mike Gillis is as arrogant as they come. Him having to bite the bullet and buy him out after all his posturing about not giving away all star goaltenders would be fantastic.

You are very petty. Anyone ever told you that. Seek help.

What should have Gillis come out and said?

Not every team can win every year.... but could the amount of Playoffs games the Canucks played .... just the home dates... those where its all profit... and the individual awards and team awards.... I think he did just fine. How did your team do over the same period?

Holmgren/Snider are basically running a team like how a fan would, constantly making moves for the sake of making them and hoping something works out.
