Will they steal him in the dark of night?

Yeah...it'll probably go something like this:

Re-entry waivers no longer exist. And in that case, the Canucks might as well trade him and eat some of his salary(teams would have to be interested in that case IMO).

duh ! ! really??? frank this new CBA....im getting to old to keep track...btw, when did everyone start wearing those plastic thingies on their noggins

It would be hilarious if he gets bought out and a bidding war follows and he ends up getting another big contract with an even higher cap hit. Whenever Philly is involved, the price goes up(either trade or FA).

Yes, this would be my concern as well...

I love Torts and his circus act...

honestly Luongo may be the better of the 2 goalies to be able to put up with torts..has handled the trade poope pretty good and could prolly handle torts' poope too

"Beatle_John" --- interesting name. Sounds like one of those guys who gets a tattoo when young and is stuck with it after it becomes irrelevant.

BY the way... I was meant to imply perfection.... Which clearly turned into a nasty infection....

They might try to do that to avoid having to pay his buyout. Worst case you get him on re-entry and you buy him out anyway.

$5.3m on a top tier goalie is a pretty good deal.

New CBA, one way contracts buried in the minors sill count against the cap, and re-entry waivers no longer exist.

You can't waive Lou to make the cap hit disappear. And no team takes on that full contract by claiming him on waivers.

Here in Montreal, there is Alot of Carey Price to the Flyers talk floating around on a few fan sites, RDS also getting in on it, there is a Third team in the mix, that I know, probably the Oilers, this trade would include Markov and Desharnais also headed out. Couturier and Eberle the fowards mentioned, along with picks/prospects..Stay tuned!!

Don't think so man....we have a 3 headed monster right now. Ramo, Berra and MacDonald....could be REALLLLLLLLLL interesting

Seriously though, I don't THINK the Flames would claim Lou. Not the right age for what they are trying (hopefully) to do.

It tells me the dumb GM is going to buy him out. He could have sent him to Toronto for some assets, but thought he could do better. It's moves like this that lead me to believe Vancouver's GM is an idiot. Then again, I'm fine with Luongo going to Philly. Have no problem with this whatsoever. We know his issues in the play-offs.
- Oneonta Penguin

you Vancouver fans are so funny. ITS NOT LUONGO IN THE PLAYOFFS!!! it the team in front of him.. Luongo cant score goals in the playoffs but neither can the sisters... look at the hawks this year, I would take rask on my team way before I took Crawford but they still won the cup because they could score goals and have solid d men. Sure Crawford made some key stop but he also let in a lot of weak ones on the glove side. your team is awesome in the regular season but poops the bed in the playoffs year after year. Vancouver is far better off trading Schneider as he would bring in some valuable assets and still leave you with one of the better goalies in the game. Now you guys bring in Torts to help lmao!! I don't understand why the sisters don't get all the hate and luongo does?????

What this means is Philly is going to buy out Luongo FOR Vancouver and then re-sign him as a UFA.
- TeeVee

interesting angle. will the CBA allow it?

Also... ek does not mention that the 10 others teams would have to pass on the Waiver prior to their shot at him.

The order is:

1. Colorado --- I do not see them having serious interest
2. Florida --- DING!
3. Tampa --- DING!
4. Nashville --- you never know....
5. Carolina --- I do not think they would do it
6. Calgary --- Could very well do it
7. Edmonton --- DING (and have showed interest in the past)
8. Buffalo --- Could be
9. New Jersey --- I think they would be in on this quickly
10. Dallas --- you never know

and finally Philly at 11. They will need to offer up a little something to get him. In addition, I am sure that New Jersey and perhaps Florida and Edmonton and perhaps Tampa will also offer a little bit jus to keep him off of waivers. Maybe not Florida as they only have Colorado to deal with.

Rememeber, although it is a cap hit, some of these teams need that to hit the floor and all they have to do is put him on waivers next year if things do not work out. Sure he will be a year older but still serviceable and if no one picks him up, he could go to the minors for 1/2 the salary or they buy him out.

- Beatle_john

Dallas has a better goalie then Luongo already; unless Buffalo can move Miller, they aren't in the market; Nashville would be foolish to do it - they already have a better one; Florida has a young talented goalie in Markstrom that needs to play. Luongo doesn't help Florida.
