Clouts there are always guys on a team that the GM doesn't want to move. You do need to relise that to get something the oilers will have to give something and yes we've reached that point where the oilers need to be better or risk lossing fans. People are mad here and runnin out of rope for the oilers. It's going to be start winning soon or people will tune out. So if giving up say eberle to fill a need and get a superstar D back then thats what MacT has to do weither you like it or not. The oilers maybe still be bad next year but fans need to see something to keep them on this teams train.
First rumor, though i like ganger i tbelieve we need a big center if RNH is number one then ganger needs to go.
Clutterbuck sucks that will be all. He won't get along with hall either. No thanks give me matt cook instead if possible. - deadsector
The team will be infinately better simply by replacing ALL the UFA's,Hemmer and Horcoff with other,better players (or at least better fits). I dont see us nabbing anyone special this year. |

Here's my thought today. (frank) it, let's go buck wild and take every deal on the table.
Let me just daydream a little bit
Pitlick + Anaheim 2nd <--> Cal Clutterbuck
Hemsky + 7th <--> Cowen + Smith
Nick Schultz + 2014 Edmonton 2nd <--> Scott Hartnell
Sign Lapierre and Emery
Hall-Gagner-Yakupov

Emery - Morris
Schultz and a 2nd doesn't even start the conversation for Hartnell.

Schultz and a 2nd doesn't even start the conversation for Hartnell. - rhornsburg
My impression was that the flyers were hard up for cash while looking to re-tool their d and between Simmmonds and Hartnell they'd choose Simmonds. It's a lowball offer, but one that somewhat takes into account the tricky situation the flyers are in.
For curiosity's sake, and because I think Hartnell would be a nice piece on the Oil, what do you reckon the flyers would be looking for? |

Fine by me. I think we should be making smaller investments for somewhat lesser players at this stage. We are a couple three years away from making big splashes like that. |

I don't know that that's really the case. It's not like we're going to make him and another 3rd line centre duke it out for our affections and waffle back and forth on which one we like better. There were a lot of characteristics about the Luongo situation that in my impression don't apply. |

Mac T said that he would welcome him back (and Hemmer) if he couldn't find a signifgant return in trade.
These guys are pro's. If Mac T sat down with him and said he couldnt get a good trade,I'm sure they could work it out. They're not Women. |

With the 2 buyouts, they are several million under the cap, with only a couple spots to fill. And that's including Pronger's $5M that can be put on LTIR at any time during the season. They are plenty fine with money.
As for the defense, they have 7 defensemen. They are probably looking at trading Meszaros for whatever they can get, which adds another $4M to the cap space. (Want him?) The problem with our defense is the lack of top end skill, which obviously is an issue with which Edmonton cannot help us since you guys are looking for the same thing. As for the offense, the team is horribly thin at LW. Hartnell is really the only LW in the organization who can now or in the future play in the top 6. Sure Read can slide over, but he's a natural RW, along with Voracek and Simmonds. Hartnell's not the guy we can afford to trade right now, especially with his trade value at an all-time low due to last season. If you were still so inclined to trade for him, the cost would be that of a typical 1st line scoring winger because that is his value to the Flyers, and there is no reason to trade him for anything less.
You're probably talking MPS plus other assets. I would say MPS + 7th, citing the Carter trade as the basis, but I think we can all agree that the 7th in this draft is quite a bit more valuable than the 8th pick back in 2011, which means that comparison isn't quite right. MPS + 2014 1st + one of your defensive prospects not named Klefbom is probably around his value, but the Flyers wouldn't trade him for that when one of the main pieces is so far away from contributing. |

As Jshack said that makes a lot of sense. Maybe Edmonton and Philly aren't such great dance partners.
Although for the right price, I think Edmonton could get behind Mezaros, and maybe even Read while we've got some injuries in our centres, though he might be a little to pricy and too small for what we're aiming at.

Hey, that roster isnt too bad. And the deals are believable, though I dont know well enough the other team's thoughts on their players.
Example, has philly given up on 30 goal hartnell and think of him as 20-25 goal hartnell?
Or how much does sens value cowen? Or do they have a center to replace smith at 3C? (I guess zibby could)
But as always Mr. Morris, good insight |
