I want to give him credit where credit is due. He said things to the effect of "horcoff is gone for sure" which is not what I was thinking. But he never really had the audacity to claim that they'd buy out Horcoff without a replacement being lined up. So I'm impressed, but not that impressed. I think all you can hope is that Clouts will cool off of his opinions. First he said we'd get Monahan to replace Gagner, now I feel like he's come around to the idea that the 7th pick prospect won't be ready and that Gagner will stay.

Prediction for next blog: He proposes Clutterbuck + Matt Cullen's rights for Pitlick, Omark and a 2nd.

Clouts there are always guys on a team that the GM doesn't want to move. You do need to relise that to get something the oilers will have to give something and yes we've reached that point where the oilers need to be better or risk lossing fans. People are mad here and runnin out of rope for the oilers. It's going to be start winning soon or people will tune out. So if giving up say eberle to fill a need and get a superstar D back then thats what MacT has to do weither you like it or not. The oilers maybe still be bad next year but fans need to see something to keep them on this teams train.

Coburn could be an effective #2 D, but he needs to be paired with a player like Kimmo Timonen in his prime to do it. Otherwise he is better in the second pair.

Coburn is a very good skater, has good size, a very erratic shot, and really took a step back this year when asked to perform as more of a puck moving D.
Playing a lot with Gervais also hurt him.

He can play 23-24 minutes a night.
With Mezsaros and Grossmann having health issues, the Flyers would need another top 4 defenseman if they trade Coburn.
I just can't see Edmonton being a good trade partner for this reason.
Coburn is a solid player when used right.

He'd be a great fit with J Schultz. He wouldn't have to be the puck mover, he'd need to be a shut down guy.

But, yea PHI desperately needs D. Doesn't make any sense to deal it away

Oilers will NOT buy out Shawn Horcoff. Do not take that to mean a compliance by out will not be used in EDM however. Quite possible.

@rdcloutier He won't buy him out. Makes no sense for Oilers. He is trying to trade him, buyout doesn't help Oilers this year.
