You're selling this garbage on the day when they have paid close to 40 million dollars to Bryzgalov to play 97 games?

Bryzgalov is one move out of how many? The money isn't coming out of my pocket!

Luke schenn was good for 48 gms and that's good, but the flyers wanted a top pairing dman going into the off season and ended up w/ a nice stay-at-home type, needing a puck mover and a scoring winger...that's a net loss for me and the streit signing proves they should have kept carle.

now add that jvr was a beast in 2 out of 3 playoffs and I'd take my scenario. imo, both jvr and Luke have to prove it over a full season...and Bob too, for that matter.

- isaiah520

The fact that JvR was a beast in the playoffs bothers me a little though, because all he was doing different was playing up on his skates. When he gets up on his skates and moves his legs he is a dominant power forward. He doesn't do that from shift to shift, let alone game to game. Granted, that's easy for me to say, but the lack of a scoring winger was an issue even with JvR in the fold. Jagr was the scoring winger for that line. Streit and Carle are two different players, similar styles but Streit has a way better shot but gives up a little in size. Both are sub-par defensively, although Carle has good shot blocking ability.

People should be more concerned with the people running the Flyers, instead of the media.

As I posted earlier close to 12 million in cap space was cleared with the buyouts of Briere and Bryzgalov, and roughly 40% of it has been spent on a +35 contract and Mark Streit.

It appears to me that there is no plan that is being adhered to. Constantly reversing course. Never allowing any cohesion to be built.

- PLindbergh31

Streit was signed before the buyouts of Briere and Bryzgalov. They haven't even happened yet.

I think their best option is to sign or trade for another guy like mason who has something to prove so they can push each other

i think homer really screwed gillis by buying out bryz hurts luongo's trade value tremendously for everyone except the flyers
- 2Real

I will be amazed if there is a trade out there for Roberto Luongo, straight up, where Vancouver gets an asset greater than a fourth-round pick.

It just makes no sense to do that. If you're the Flyers, for example, you can honestly sit there and say, "Yes. Roberto Luongo is better than Steve Mason. Yes, we would be a better team with Luongo. But no, we are not going to give you an asset that we value, because not only is his contract horrific, YOU can't afford it."

While Steve Mason has certainly struggled, who is really in a worse position here: The Flyers, with Steve Mason, or the Canucks, who are capped out and have $9 million-plus committed to two goalies?

Yes, the Bryzgalov contract was a mistake. We all know it. And Ed Snider's fingerprints are all over it, because you don't sign a guy and then buy him out and not get fired if you're Paul Holmgren unless you were told to bring him in.

But at least the Flyers could buy it out, and did so pretty much immediately. Vancouver continues to hold out this hope that someone is going to step forward and do a deal where they "win." That can't happen. It just won't happen.

I think they would have traded a Couturier package for Weber, but the Flyers brain trust figured there would be no way the Preds would be able to match an offer sheet. Calculated risk that failed.

A lot can happen in the next 10 days to two weeks, but right now this isn't close to a playoff roster.

- PLindbergh31

I disagree. They should have made the playoffs last year. Look at Ottawa's roster? They made the playoffs. They have more talent then the Flyers do? It's not always about talent. Or what the team looks like on paper.

Jeff Reese has his goalies doing yoga for conditioning, no wonder Bryz is so laid back and ducky in the net.
- vejim

Fire Jeff Reese. He hasn't helped any goalie improve really. Maybe Bobrovsky but thats stretching it. I think a new goalie coach could do (frank)ing wonders. His stay is overdue.

I need to know so I can recommend this for the COC.

He made Michael Leighton look like a Stanley Cup winning goaltender before the magic wore out. The Flyers org rave about him, as well as many goaltenders that have played under him.

Actually, and I'm sorry to point this out, but that is factually incorrect. If you look at the statistics of Flyers goaltending in the regular season since Reese came, you'd be surprised at what you find.

The goalies falter in the postseason, and if you want to pin that on Jeff Reese, by all means, you can do that.

But Ilya Bryzgalov, quite frankly, has been the worst starter the Flyers have had under Reese. Guys like Martin Biron and Sergei Bobrovsky had strong seasons here -- you don't have 100-point seasons with God-awful goaltending.
