Considering he is 32 years old, it would take too much. Best route to go would be to get Luongo if he becomes a FA or sign a guy like Ray Emery and let Emery & Mason man the net this year.

What do you guys think it would take to get Ryan Miller out of Buffalo?
- idiotsallofu

I think he'd get crucified in philly.. also, I wouldn't trade for him, but if he was bought out, I'd consider signing him... Lu or Emery is where I am at. Lu costs more but man would that shore up the position.

Completely agree with this. If Luongo can't be had cheaply, then bring in Emery and hope that Mason is great and takes over. If Mason isn't the answer, and the team misses the playoffs, the next move to me is Homer is gone.. Bring in Hextall. I believe Homer should be on a 1 yr leash here. I can't particularly say I am thrilled with his performance over the last 2 years. If he solidifies the D, and adds a big forward, and the team is a contender in the East, I will gladly eat my words.
- Hextall271

It is tough to say I am not happy with what he has done over the past 2 years. The #18 & #17 trades won't be able to be judged for another 5 years when Couturier, Simmonds, Schenn, Voracek are all in their prime. They went younger with that trade and got some great players, which resulted in a set back. However, it could definitely put them in a better position for the future with those 4 guys over #17 & #18. Obviously the Bryzgalov move was a bust of a move, but when you invest that much in a goalie there is no doubt everyone all the way up to the big man was involved in that move. Not to mention there is the potential of Mason bouncing back and being the real deal and then you are looking at a great steal of a trade to solidify the goaltending position with a young goalie for the future.

Unfortunately, their mindset was to get younger and stock up on young talented players and build that way. The only way we are going to find out how well that worked is to revisit it in 3-5 years when these guys are in their prime and hopefully the core of this team.

I think Read is gone, and one of Mezzy/Coburn. Mezzy would be for a pick to get cap space if that were to happen. Coburn would be a piece of a significant deal.

Read, while I like him and love his cap hit has good value and is the odd man out of our RFAs next year.

Read will be a UFA after this Season, not an RFA.

I'd be happy to trade read and a 3rd for miller and extend him 2 or 3 years at around 5 mil.

And the entire Boston team plays well defensively. Except for the last 2 minutes of the game last night.

Oh my bad. Well. It would still be difficult to sign him for market value if he continues to progress, though the cap does go back up.

With the Bryzgalov and Briere buyouts, Flyers are now $4.18 million under the $64.3 million cap ceiling for next season. If Meszaros, a UFA next summer, goes in a salary-dump trade, there is then $8.18 million in cap space. Timonen (a $6 million cap hit) is likely to retire next summer.

In other words, cap space to re-sign Read (after Giroux, B. Schenn and Couturier) is not an issue -- but that's going to depend on what other moves happen between now and then.

I know how to fix the NHL cap. Every player will make the same exact money despite their talent and performance.

See what will happen is the league will take lets say 40% of the salary from the players that make more money. Then the league can give it to the less talented players because they need the leagues help. Then the league will pay for travel and team maintenance as they see fit.

- youarewrong

Top-end players with any sense are usually willing to leave some money on the table, because they know that without a strong supporting cast, the team is less likely to succeed. Unless... hockey suddenly becomes a 1-on-1 sport.

It would a set the Flyers back defensively, but I would be 100% on board with Coburn being the center piece of a deal for Bobby Ryan. Would be great to have a young offensive core of Giroux, Ryan, Voracek, Simmonds, Schenn, Couturier... you could then dangle Read to get more defensive help.

I know I have been all over Bobby Ryan for like a year now, but to me he is the perfect fit to play with Giroux as a dynamic duo up front for the net 5 or more years.

They do always seem to figure it out and atleast try what they wanna do regardless of how it looks on capgeek, ala Parise, Suter, and Weber.

I think they think lets get this move or that move done, and then figure out the logistics later, especially if its a guy they really want.

These are the players I think might get bought out...or at least should.

Marian Hossa (Maybe)
Vinny Lecavalier
Brad Richards
Roberto Luongo (Maybe)
Ryan Malone
Johan Franzon
Danny Briere
Ilya Bryzgalov
Brian Campbell
Brent Burns
Paul Martin
Kari Lehtonen
Scottie Upshall
Ville Leino
James Wisniewski
Thomas Kaberle
Dustin Byfuglien
Anton Volchenkov
John-Michael Liles
Josh Gorges
Mike Komisarek
Rick Dipietro
Chris Higgins

- dingo8urbaby

I dont see this happening at all, but if it does the Flyers should be all over Kari. Remember wanting him back in his Thrasher days.

Yeah your right... But they aren't going to get it. Miller sold his condo and has said his goodbyes. He's definitely getting traded. He has 1 year left at 6 mil cap hit. No ones giving up a ton for that. He want to go somewhere that will extend his contract a few years. Philly is a perfect fit.

The Flyers have a great opportunity to be smart this summer. Here's hoping they learn from their new obligation in paying Bryz for the next 14 years to temper their aggression and maybe try to build through the draft a bit more effectively

If the Flyers are smart, they can re-sign Read before Schenn and Couturier. Giroux is obviously the #1 priority, and I expect that to happen sometime after July 5th, hopefully. There is a new rule in place in the CBA. On March 1st of every Season, each teams tagging space is increased by 10M. The Flyers can wait until then to finalize new deals with Couturier and Schenn. Then if need be, they can address any Cap issues during the off season, or at the draft. A signed Read to a solid deal, has far more trade value then Read does as an impending UFA. If they trade him at all. There is no question that they can re-sign Read.

Hope they find a way to keep Read.

With Homer wanting to "get bigger" forwards, it may not work out.

I also get the feeling they are just luke warm about bringing Gagne back, no reasons, just get that feeling.
