nothing against the kid, but hope not

I'd probably go with a shot at him if the pick was in the 20's. Too many other to consider before him at #11

They also didn't win. So its a moot point. I don't want teams good enough to get to the cup. I want a team good enough to win it.

I don't even understand the point of our disagreement?
- Flyersgod

You seem to think that having a #1 goalie, center and Dman will win you a cup even if the roster is filled out with lesser talent. I believe that depth is more important than having a pure #1 at every position.

SKA St. Petersburg already did.

Would CBJ receive any compensation if they lost Bob to the KHL?

I would finally feel a lot better about trading him away last summer if they do not.

@ToddCordell Darren Dreger said Ray Emery is definitely a possibility for the #Flyers. Said they believe in Mason but want someone to go with him.
- isaiah520

I'd rather he be left on an island.

decimated by injuries during that run

and who's to say the '010 team wasn't good enough to win the cup. if they score in game 6 OT, might have won game 7.

just because Chicago scored in OT does that mean the Flyers were not good enough to win a Cup that year? seems a bit of a reach, imo

Nope, but they'd retain his NHL rights in perpetuity.

We still try to acquire talent via free agency though...
- Flyersgod

They wouldn't have money to add via free agency. The roster posted earlier was over the cap with garbage at fwd.

I just don't see it but if that's your opinion you're entitled to it.

My point is that you're saying "nope," Erik Gustafsson can't replace Kimmo Timonen. But the honest truth is that Kimmo Timonen's career start has eerie parallels to Erik Gustafsson's.

Again, if Gustafsson were a first-round pick and accomplished all he has -- I believe he made an All-American team, at some level, in college -- then you wouldn't be concerned about whether he could replace Timonen, right?

- AllInForFlyers

Who knows what can happen down the line. Maybe Gustafsson is a late bloomer and will all of a sudden take off. But the odds are against it. I think it's much more realistic to just hope that Gustafsson can be a solid all around top 6 NHL defenseman. I think he's ready for that.

Finally. I would be all for bringing in Luongo. I actually believe in Steve Mason and I think bringing in Luongo to start now and help groom Mason for the future would be a great move. No more than 3 years though...

I understand his point even if I disagree. The point being that with Giroux and Weber the team fills two of the most important positions for the next 10 years.

I would not mind this. Emery played very well for Chicago this year and having Emery and Mason back there would be a nice combo to have. I would definitely be for that move.. if they can't get Luongo.

Corey Crawford just won the Stanley Cup. You don't need an elite goalie, you need a good goalie who play above and beyond in the playoffs.

What do you guys think it would take to get Ryan Miller out of Buffalo?

So everyone said Coots shut down Malkin in the playoffs.
After watching Malkin in the playoffs this year. I think it's safe to say Malkin shuts himself down.

- Winning

Malkin was more than a point per game player in the first two rounds and for the entire playoffs so what r you talking about?

Considering he is 32 years old, it would take too much. Best route to go would be to get Luongo if he becomes a FA or sign a guy like Ray Emery and let Emery & Mason man the net this year.

Completely agree with this. If Luongo can't be had cheaply, then bring in Emery and hope that Mason is great and takes over. If Mason isn't the answer, and the team misses the playoffs, the next move to me is Homer is gone.. Bring in Hextall. I believe Homer should be on a 1 yr leash here. I can't particularly say I am thrilled with his performance over the last 2 years. If he solidifies the D, and adds a big forward, and the team is a contender in the East, I will gladly eat my words.

I know how to fix the NHL cap. Every player will make the same exact money despite their talent and performance.

See what will happen is the league will take lets say 40% of the salary from the players that make more money. Then the league can give it to the less talented players because they need the leagues help. Then the league will pay for travel and team maintenance as they see fit.

I think Read is gone, and one of Mezzy/Coburn. Mezzy would be for a pick to get cap space if that were to happen. Coburn would be a piece of a significant deal.

Read, while I like him and love his cap hit has good value and is the odd man out of our RFAs next year.
