These are the players I think might get bought out...or at least should.

Marian Hossa (Maybe)
Vinny Lecavalier
Brad Richards
Roberto Luongo (Maybe)
Ryan Malone
Johan Franzon
Danny Briere
Ilya Bryzgalov
Brian Campbell
Brent Burns
Paul Martin
Kari Lehtonen
Scottie Upshall
Ville Leino
James Wisniewski
Thomas Kaberle
Dustin Byfuglien
Anton Volchenkov
John-Michael Liles
Josh Gorges
Mike Komisarek
Rick Dipietro
Chris Higgins

First, I appreciate you trying to put this list together, it takes some tough skin to do so. Now, I agree with the other things posted and Brent Burns is a staple for SJS and I would be extremely surprised if he was bought out. I would also like to see the flyers pick him up immediately if it happens. I don't see cap floor teams buying out anyone, they don't have cash and that is their problem. So Wisz and Campbell stay put. I could be wrong but I don't think it will be too crazy.

And Alexander Daigle was drafted 1st overall. What is your point?
- youarewrong

My point is that you're saying "nope," Erik Gustafsson can't replace Kimmo Timonen. But the honest truth is that Kimmo Timonen's career start has eerie parallels to Erik Gustafsson's.

Again, if Gustafsson were a first-round pick and accomplished all he has -- I believe he made an All-American team, at some level, in college -- then you wouldn't be concerned about whether he could replace Timonen, right?

Won't matter when we trade for Bobby Ryan at the draft.

Jesus, I hope that doesn't turn out to be a Miss Cleo moment

All the more reason to keep things simple when we lose coburn Lol.

Richards = chronic
- GirouxForTheShow

Off topic, but I always wanted to make a band named Chronic Pain. Double meaning.. get it?

Also wanted to play with a band named Inflamation.

The conrect ticket would read... "Chronic Pain with Inflamation."

I don't even think they have 9 rounds in the NHL Draft anymore, do they?
- johndewar

Nope, for just that reason -- so many of those guys never even were signed, they said it wasn't worth drafting them to begin with. They cut the eighth round for the same reason.

Gus reminds me of nick leddy.... A lot. If healthy I think thats a good parallel.

My point was it doesnt matter where either was picked, what matters is what we have seen. Although he has improved, there is NO evidence he will be able to replace Kimmo. He is projected to be a 3rd-5th d-man. Not an All-star, d-man.

So I say again. NUPE.

When Laviolette "simplified" things after all the injuries, the team defense was vastly improved and the transition game was much more effective.

I just feel Laviolette mishandled his roster, and when the injuries piled up, he had to change and it worked well.

- Jsaquella

I can see that, it got frustrating to watch as they tried stretch pass after stretch pass to stationary FWDs only to come back the other way. Never an adjustment.

This is a little simplistic but I like keep it simple.

Seven core positions/Flyers

#1 Center - Giroux - lock him up, anything under 7.5M is a win

#2 Sniper/Winger - while Jake V is not a pure sniper he is pretty damn good at driving puck possession and creating chances. Flyers OK here for now

#3 Power Forward - I guess this is Hartnell on this team. Not the best PWR F but adequate to very good at times

#4 Offensive Defenseman/PP Quarterback - a need and a tough one to fill. Kimmo for one more yr but then what?

#5 Shut Down Defenseman - Luke Schenn showed some signs last year he could be this. I think the Flyers are OK in this spot for now

#6 Shut Down Center/Specialty Forward - Couturier certainly has the potential for this role and to be top notch at it. Keep him unless a trade fills another core spot like #1 defenseman

#7 Franchise Goalie - a need. Could Mason turn into this? I don't know.

So we need a #1 D and a franchise goalie to fill out the core seven spots.

Big holes, a lot of work to do.

Identify who you have at these spots, fill the ones you need, and then get the best role players with the cap space left.

Last summer he was seen by most as a future 6th guy, at best.

I watched a few episodes of Dexter once. It was alright. I'm not very good at keeping up with TV shows, though.

I'd be worried about taking Ryan Pulock at #11. Not sure of his hockey sense or willingness to learn the defensive side (that's where scouting comes in), but the ghost of Brendan Kichton looms large.

The shot looks great, but he's also only an average skater.

I'd much prefer Nurse or Ristolainen, if going with defense at #11.

Much prefer a forward, though.

I hope that Laviolette larned form last year. I hope Holmgren and Snider learn from sending those checks to Bryz every year.

I think if you have #1-#6, #7 is unnecessary -- or more of a luxury than a need.

Actually, most people rave about his hockey sense...it's the most lauded asset he has, besides the shot.

That's fine, but what do you think Kimmo Timonen was slotted as when he came over? Until the guy plays a full season, which hopefully he will next season, all we have are opinions.

I just said that I think he can replace him. You saying "NUPE" doesn't make what your opinion correct -- it just means that you don't.

Time will tell, and the odds are that you might be right. But I do think that you could be wrong.

I guess it depends on the def of franchise goalie

Cory Crawford showed he can stand the most intense pressure there is and win.
I didn't think he could do it.

If one Erik Gustafsson can't replace Kimmo Timonen, how about two?
