Philly has used both their compliance buyouts and still has 7 Dmen making $3.5mm+. That is amazing.

Important fact regarding that last tweet: Philly’s defence sucks.

And at this time next year, they wish they had at least one more to use in Streit. If they get Luongo, then two.

Pretty much. It says a lot that Miller starts blowing all thise 'off the record' smoke after the fact. I really don't like our beat writers. At all. - BulliesPhan87
Very unprofessional, why would any current player now tell him anything? How could they trust him to not just blow up with all these stories if they are traded or bought out or sign somewhere else? Really stupid move on his part and gutless. |

Johnson is terrible and Downie? Really? - Oneonta Penguin
You don't think Erik Johnson could benefit from a change? He's not horrible, just need to get his head off his a$$ (as you would say) He would be united with former teammates from Team US in Martin and Orpik.
Steve Downie. He's not bad as you're making it out to be. He has a spot on our 3rd and 4th lines easily. Could be another younger Cooke for this team and take some shifts on the 2nd line if needed.
McGinn. A guy we could work on for our top 6. He could be tried on Malkin's LW or Sid's.
I can't see how this deal is "bad" at all.

This would be the second change of scenery deal for Erik Johnson. He was a bust for the Blues. "Just need to get his head out of his ass" is a comment we have grown to associate with Erik Johnson for the last four years.
I like McGinn alot.
Not a fan of your idea at all. I only like McGinn.

Downie is a perfect role player, in the Cooke mode. Do you like John Mitchell? They have some good players. Parenteau (if not for his $4M contract)...
Personally I'd take E.Johnson. He's just as big as Despres, and is not a horrible skater. I could see him working out with Martin and Orpik's leadership somehow. |

Erik Johnson has been a bust.
When you deal Letang, you want high end talent coming back, not third line role players. Shero would laugh if he heard Johnson and Downie as the starters.
You get McGinn, Johnson and Downie back for Letang - Cooke is gone; Dupes is gone. We would be over the cap. McGinn, who I like alot, is a RFA after 2014 (1.75 now), Downie is a UFA (2.65 right now).

You are twisting things. I said McGinn/Downie AND E.Johnson. McGinn is in my initial deal. He's not there because you like him. He's the forward with top 6 potential.
How can you say Dupuis AND Cooke are gone if we made that trade. You cannot. Maybe we could lose one of them, at most.
You're not a fan of this deal so no reason to discuss it anymore. |

That isn't close to being enough for Letang. McGinn and a bust of a young Dman.

i will be very interested to see if RS moves an asset to sign a UFA. I cant get the math to line up. If dupuis and cooke both want 4 year deals (both are 34 yr old), letang's last yr plus fluery and martin being $5M+, there isnt a lot of $ left over for other signings.
how about: trade MAF, re sign DuPuis to 3 yr deal, re sign adams, sign cooke if cap friendly 2 yr, sign briere, trade for smith. yes i dont think any of that will happen. plus that pesky malone rumor. |

the fourth period is reporting that tampa is deciding on buying out lecavalier or malone. does either impact the pens? maybe vince goes to the habs? does that change teh $ they could spend if they wanted to sign letang to a max contract next year? |

Pass on Mike Smith. He is nothing more than a product of the Phoenix system. See Bryz. The only way you bring him in is if you can Bylsma (too late), hire tippett and bring Burke with him. Pass on Briere too. I can't stand the guy and don't think he'd prosper in Pittsburgh.
Malone is fine for 1 million and a penny. He is way too fragile for me. A healthy Malone, I'd be all for.

Vinny - no; Malone - maybe - only for dirt cheap. |

If he's bought out, the pens should go after him. Always loved vinny and St. Louis. Vinny is also 33 and giving him a 4 year deal wouldn't be as bad as giving Cooke or dupuis a 4 year deal |

i dont see where he would help the team though. they dont really need another offensively minded center. malone, however, id look at for the right price |

smith shouldnt even be a realistic option. id pass very easily on briere as well. id be willing to take a flyer on malone at maybe anything under 2 |

Can Lecavalier play wing? If he comes cheap, I'd be OK with his signing. It would be cool if B.Ridchards is also bought out and both are reunited to play with Sid P.S. Doesn't Vinny has a little feud with Geno? |

Briere sucks at wing and he won't be getting any ice at center on the pens no thanks. |

Just a little one, he's probably sick of malkin always killing his team. I swear every time the pens play the bolts malkin does something spectacular. |
