They don't pick until 25 anyway.

For the fun of it:
Beaulieu/Gallagher/1st?

I'd say Gorges but his contract length is a bit out there despite being pretty economical for his salary.

Would Gorges/Gallagher/and either Beaulieu or Kristo be a bit too much to ask of Montreal for Letang? But unfortunately keeps Letang in the east.

Plus, does anyone know anything about Gorges' play other than he can put up the minutes?

maybe i am missing something. i am confused as to why luongo has not yet been moved. is it that vancouver wants too much or that he has a limited NTC? This is taking entirely too long.

A bit too much. They wouldn't deal Gallagher. Perhaps Eller.

Gorges contract is not very friendly.

If Hossa retires before is contract ends, it will be a huge cap penalty on Chicago (new cba rules). There was talk of possibly trading him or buying him out so they can avoid that. Hossa would have to play til he's 43, which isn't impossible, but a little unlikely.

Why can they penalize them for that when the contract was signed before the CBA.

The owners agreed to it. The wonders of collective bargaining.

I'm obviously not a hossa fan and not a big Blackhawks supporter but that's completely unfair.

A top 4 defenseman signed for the next 5 years at $3.9 mil? I'd take that every day.

He led their defensemen in shorthanded ice time too.. That can take some of the load off of Martin.

Because he has to be bought out with Ballard to ice a full team, no one trades for him knowing this. booth is injured thus cannot be bought out

Letang really would have made sense to the Hurricanes for the 5th pick. Them moving to our division changes things.

I was going to say, that is a really friendly cap hit for a top 4 guy who will play 20+ minutes a night.

It does change things, but if the best deal Shero can get is in Carolina I would still make it.

In this draft...yes. A top 5 pick would net an absolute dynamic forward on an entry level deal.

Also with us discussing Hossa's contract, here's the breakdown on Crosby's circumvention deal

CapGeek ‏@capgeek 3 Jun Annual cap benefit recapture penalties for Crosby if retiring in: 2022 $5.7M, 2023 $5.7M, 2024 $5.7M. Penalty counts until contract expiry.

Do you think there's a legit opportunity they trade the 5th pick after trading the 8th last year?

They will be good. Injury to Ward killed them last year.

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 12m Interested to see if Carolina trades the 5th pick. Need a top 4 D. Could be part of a package. Told Rutherford is getting lots of calls.

In short yes. They want to win now. They are willing to spend.
