According to Capgeek, the Flyers will be paying Bryzgalov 1.64 million a year until 2027, when he will turn 47 - cap1681
As for the 2013-2014 season, the Flyers will be paying out almost 9.6 million to guys who either aren't on their team, or wont be playing. |

The Mets owed him 5.9 mil when they released him in 2001. They needed the money to sign other players, so they came up with a deal. If he could hold off getting paid for 10 years, they would pay him an annunity of 1.2 million over 25 years. It started in 2011 and goes to 2035 |

Oh I didn't know it stuck with the original team that signed them. But it is pretty stupid that they punish these teams AFTER they approve it and It was during the old cba. It's like saying, I texted and drove 2 years ago, and now since it just became a law last year that we cant do that (in IL) I'm getting a ticket for it now. - drummer829
Missed your edit, so is it the team that has him the longest on their cap payroll? - drummer829
As I understand it, it works like this: Let X equal the total real world dollars a team paid the player. Let Y equal the number of dollars that team endured under the cap for that player's contract.
If X > Y, that team will be charged X - Y on the cap, spread out through the remainder of the contract's term.
Do this for each team that has a frontloaded contract on the cap, with the exception of such contracts traded before the lockout (i.e. Richards, Carter).
Also, if Y > X, teams generally do not get credit for negative cap advantage. I'm not so clear on this rule, though.
As for punishing teams after the fact, it's particularly annoying to me because the NHL approved those contracts. They should have started the fuss they did over the Kovalchuk contract the first time it was done, and created a precedent against it. At least the punishment is in the form of a financial poison pill, so fans of the team aren't punished with a more direct competitive anchor.
EDIT: poop, had it backwards. |

The New York Mets placed Bonilla on unconditional waivers in 2000. He spent the 2000 season playing for the Atlanta Braves. The Mets agreed to pay out the remainder of Bonilla's contract by deferring the $5.9 million that he was due. The Mets will pay him 25 equal payments of $1,193,248.20 every July 1 from 2011 until 2035, assuming an annual interest rate of 8% during the period 2001–2035.
This is a stupid deal. I can't believe it. |

So, Holmgren used his two buyouts on Bryz and Briere. Two good choices. However, a year from now, he will have wished he had one remaining for Streit.
I still think GMs should be held accountable for offering ridiculous contracts. I was never in favor of amnesty buyouts. |

amnesty...it's kind of ironic.
I think you can't buy out Streit since he signed this year. |

From capgeek:
Teams receiving a “cap advantage” from long-term contracts — defined as seven years or more for contracts signed prior to the January 2013 CBA — will be penalized in the event the player retires or “defects” from the NHL before the contract expires. A team receives a “cap advantage” when the player’s actual salary exceeds his cap hit in a given year.
You are correct. |

So...what do you think about them chasing Luongo now? Wouldn't it be easier to wait for Vancouver to buy him out too so you could sign him to a reasonable deal? |

Aren't buy outs closed basically by this weekend ? if so everyone waits to see what Gillis does.... He's screwed |

I'd make a joke about how awful Holmgren is, because he's pretty bad, but I think that deal was more Snider's than Holmgrens. |

Any team that trades for that Luongo contract is making a huge mistake. No two ways about it. |
