Were they? Weber signed his deal with Philly after Suter was already lost.

Poile offered both big dollar, big year contracts, and they both wanted to test the free agency market.

I would say they would have lived with it under the old CBA. This new one is unchartered territory for a guy like Letang and what his next contract might look like.

My head says that IF Shero trades Letang, it will be to Edmonton. The trade I WANT is to Nashville, because the thought of getting Barkov is exciting.

No team is going to give up a boat load of assets for a guy on the last year of his deal. Suter wanted out. Weber was going to leave. I'd be stunned if Letang signs a long term deal in Nash.

I said it before... It's almost as if Letang is a FA. The Pens will probably have to let the acquiring club talk to him first. Or, the acquiring club will need to be damn sure that they can pay his asking price and their market is attractive enough.

I think there's less than 10 teams that will offer the right mix of money and market to entice Letang long term......and unfortunately, a couple of them are in our division.

I think this is the more likely option for a possible destination. But who knows. Each situation is unique. That leak of Shero's offer to Staal he turned down last year might have been deliberate to accelerate things along.

That is why Montreal makes the most sense to me. Letang would sign long term there. Anywhere else, I have no idea.

I agree. Montreal is his home. Edmonton is enticing for him since he's going back to Canada and playing in a team full of 1st round picks with some star power.

I think of letang is traded it's not going to be for picks and prospects its going to be an old school hockey trade where odu trade NHL tale t for nhl talent. The penguins don't want to build for the future right now they're ant the cup so they probably aren't looking for prospects they want people that re going to contribute right now.

It's Wednesday so instead of going with my Friday or Saturday response of "We'll see" I'm going to just say: a 1st round pick will be in the asking price...assuming it's a team that has one. I can't see Shero being happy with missing out on the draft after just going "all in" a few months ago. As with the Staal trade a 1st and roster player are the base. After that..."We'll see"

We can argue all day about whether he'll sign somewhere else. Bottom line: If he is about getting more money he will sign somewhere. Based on his comments about competing for a cup and playing with great talents, Edmonton fits. Shero will move him to get the max return. No shot he lets him go to FA.

Are you talking about OEL from Phoenix?? Great player, may one day be the best 2 way defenseman in the NHL.
- cap1681

Yes, would love to acquire him if possible. In exchange for Letang. What do you think?

I'd ask for more if I were Phoenix. A young defenseman of OEL's caliber for a one year rental? Pay me the premium or I'm sticking with what I've got.

@MikeColligan: According to @RenLavoieRDS, seems #Pens and Kris Letang have found common ground, only a few details to address before deal is finalized.

Limited no trade @ 7-7.25?

Edit: looks like it's 7.25 and 15 team no trade clause.
