They need a stud on the Blue line. What happened to Myers? Has his play really slipped that much? - Vukota
Myers will be fine!
TP ripped him a new one recently! |

Q: What do Jimmy Howard, Corey Crawford, Tuuka Rask, and Jonathan Quick all have in common? A: their teams did not pay an arm and a leg for them. Especially with the emergence of Viktor Fasth last year, teams are realizing that you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for a big-name goalie to be successful. In fact, with big names such as Fleury, Ward, Kiprusoff, and Luongo all recently going through some major struggles, most being unseated in their starters spot, it's hard to see why any team would think the way to go would be to pay a kings ransom for a big name in net. Add to that Miller was 18th in save percentage (behind Steve Mason!) and 34th in GAA (Dubnyk was 12th in save percentage and 23rd in GAA) this last season... Bottom line is that most teams are smart enough to pay for results, not for a name. Miller did not deliver the results to get GMs drooling. And with only 1 year left before UFA with a $6.25 M cap hit? You'd be lucky to get a middling prospect or a 2nd round pick to dump that salary.
The argument of supply and demand only holds water when the thing you "supply" is what everyone else wants. The only way I can see Edmonton biting is if they had to package Dubnyk up in a deal to trade for someone of significance. In that case, Miller would be a good plan B. But more likely, the only way Buffalo is ridding themselves of that contract is to buy him out or take another bad contract (Horcoff) back in return. - Centacre
We payed alot for Quick.

He came into this season out of shape after being injured overseas. His immaturity got the best of him. He let it be known next season will be different, we will see.
The Sabres 2 best d-men last year were Ehrhoff and Sekera. |

I believe Howard just got a hefty raise as well. And Rask will be due a nice raise too. |

That's because they had a top goalie coming up through the system.
LA signed Quick for $58M and Detroit signed Howard for $32M. A lot of money.
So if a team needs a goalie for next season, and they don't have access to a promising goalie about 26 years of age not making an arm and a leg, what do they do? |

Does this tard ever leave the title to his posts alone?
Once an hour he changes the name? FFS, just leave it the same......... - ViolentEd1
I find it perplexing why the change in titles bothers people. I barely pay attention to them. Also, when someone uses the word "tard" in their posts they lose all credibility. ViolentEd as a name doesn't score points either. |

The only untouchable should be Steve Ott. I would wait this year and see how Myers does. If he does not come through. I would buy him out. Only have 2 buyouts and they must be used by next year. - mikes1519
I'm not sure about your untouchable pick, but I do agree it is smart to wait on the buyout and make the best decision possible. |

A Rags fans talking about bad contracts and a Philly fan talking about overrated goalies, where have I seen this before? The irony here is amazing.
ADD: GArth does not represent the thoughs and actions of Sabres fans. - ImThatGuy
And for our next trick, and Coyotes fan shall appear complaining about nonexistent fanbases. |

But I do see his point.
Pay for the results. Not the name. And if that's the case, then miller won't fetch that much. Something significant, but not as much as people are saying |

No, it's possible. But not a for sure thing. For example, if I'm giving up a top six forward, top four D, or a high draft pick, I would want a for sure thing. Wouldn't you? |

agreed. but it cant be Ott. he can keep his A but cant be the captain.
too much responsibility limits his effectiveness. you captain cant be in the penalty box for blowing kisses or licking eye shields then take guys to task in between periods for their poor play. just doesnt work... |

It comes down to need and want. Does a team believe they are Miller away from contending? Maybe. the whole thing is a sell job for Darcy to undertake. Can it happen, sure. Will it, who knows. |
