I just think it's funny that he's now developing a label as a one-dimensional winger who doesn't show up for big games.

It's nice to be able to throw that poop back in Boston's face.

Yes. This. Phil took so much Heat from the Boston fans, Sequin has 2 good games?? isn't good enough to not throw that Poo back in their Faces!

yeah but kessel > ... burkes a genius (frank) all the haters, (frank) MLSE for firing him, (frank) that dumb broad hazel mae
- Mapleleafs_91

He's far from a genius.
He still f'd up.....should have made moves to ensure the leafs wouldn't finish in the top five.
I liked Burke, but his stubborn ways, stupid mentality on certain things and his inability to shut the fack up....hurt the leafs and himself.

But I loved how he treated the crap Toronto media.

Dougie Hamilton can go a lot of ways in his development...and a Chara-replacement is the least likely of the options. Just doesn't have the frame to be that strong of a presence. He'll likely project more into a Cody Franson-style defenseman. It will be more likely that Boychuck takes over the #1 role in Boston.
- p_zub

neither did Chara at 20 yrs old

by time Hamilton is 24-25 yrs old he is going to be awful to play against. Especially when he's learning from Chara.

well let's not go that far... it proves it wasn't as terrible as everyone likes to think, but it still wasn't right given the state of the team at the time. Never will be. Kessel could win back to back Conn Smythe's next 2 years and it still makes it the wrong move at the time...

And I've always been on the side of "it's not as bad as everyone likes to think."

- Big_Lightnin

Huh? So you are suggesting that there's no possible way for the Leafs to win that trade just because of the fact it was made in 2009?

I don't think there's ever a wrong time to make a good trade (assuming this continues to be a good trade).

He traded 3 completely unknown quantities, for a still-young better known quantity. Statistically, Kessel was more likely to become what he has so far, than any of those draft picks were of becoming what Kessel is....simply because at the time we had no idea who they were going to be until the season ended.

Meh he transformed this team, people make some mistakes but he is the very reason why the leafs are this good, why the leafs are a new team, why the leafs made the playoffs, why the leafs are on their way to a better future. So i am forever greatful that he transformed our garbage team, got rid of the poop the stajans antrapovs kaberles all THE CRAP we had for so long and fully flipped this team around

Dougie Hamilton has extremely good physical fitness. Both his parents were Olympians and he has had thorough training and nutrition for a long time.

When he gets older/bigger and his foot speed improves. Watch out.

Projecting the development of young defenseman is practically a guessing game. It's roulette.

The list of top 10 drafted defenseman who busted is far longer than the list of the success stories.

Exactly that is the main point that killed him, but never less, he did bring in carlyle who changed this team around as well.

I dont disagree.
But you cant afford to make any mistakes when trading away two 1st and 2nd.
Burke did.

Didn't say anything about winning the trade, said it was a bad move given the state of the team at the time.

I love the way Kessel has progressed, but it still doesn't make it a wise move at the time, just makes it fortunate.

Leafs have contacted the Oilers about the 7th overall pick. Hearing Gunnarsson/Phaneuf are in play.

While I believe that the Leafs would be willing to move up in the draft, and that Dion could very well be on his way out, something tells me moving two Dmen in this case isn't a very smart move.

aren't we just discussing above how kessel is better than what we traded for? I am pretty sure kessel is worth even more than what we traded for him now

I like Burke and the way he does things, but am glad that Nonis is running the show now...It's hard to upgrade on someone like Burke, but I think the Leafs did just that...

Not Domi

Don't get me wrong he's a decent pickup, but it'd be a waste of a top 10 pick. I say he falls to 15th

Edit: Monohan is a steal...played on a crappy Ottawa team

Ya no....I do believe Pa-neuf is in play (almost everyone is).....but the leafs simply do not have a player to replace his time and skill.
