Not when all his confidence is gone cause nonis the donkey pushed him back to #2 again.
- Snagglepuss

It's just not the way to treat a guy I'de say. Reims earned it, and they trade for a guy who has sais publicly he has no interest in backing up, i other words, they traded for a guy who is going to try and run Reimer out of town, not a good move, especially after all the veteran backup talk the last 3 months.

Being able to carry the load and play 8 to ten games in a row at a time consistently is massive. Lots of goalies can play awesome for one or a few games, but the best guys do it over the course of many games, as Reimer proved in his rookie year. I really hope Bernier ripps it up, but this has the potential to open up a hornets nest of problems, and like I said, Bernier doesn't play behind crap d in LA, we'll see how great he is in TO.
- aminnes

Consistent playing time helps goalies get a rhythm, When Bernier got that this past season he put up great numbers.

Since 2006 he's had a broken hand, a torn ligament in his ankle, another ankle injury, a concussion, a neck injury, and an MCL sprain.
- Feeling Glucky?

Ah ok, I couldn't seem to find the others listed. Thanks!

Well, Kadri,Franson,Gunnarsson,Fraser,Colborne and McLaren are all RFas that will be re-signed.

Clarkson is our target. As is a depth d-man. And it sounds like were going to trade for a centre.

That would be

JVR centre? Kessel

Lupul Kadri Clarkson

McClement Grabovski Kulemin

McLaren Colborne Orr

Gunnarsson Phaneuf

Gardiner Franson

Fraser Holzer

Liles still in the mix and if we get another d-man that could move Gunnarsson down and Holzer to 7/8. Anything could happen, can't wait.

- t_leafs21

Look at Leafs targeting Mason Raymond for the 3rd line + pk duties.

EDIT: a third line of Raymond - McClement - Kulemin will be very good and defensively responsible.

The Stastny name is forever tainted in Toronto.

Kid is a third liner at this point. Big hype, small results.

Don't believe its a wise idea to trade Phaneuf, we should be focusing on acquiring a top pairing defenseman for him. Yandle or Letang would be ideal, expensive, but ideal.
- ThePresident

I'm guessing Dion will be gone. Mackenzie and Dreger both hearing he's on the block. Where there's smoke, there's fire. I think, like bringing in Bernier, the Leafs brass feel a change at the very core of the team is need.

and his five hole looked really bad this year too.. so many where i thought to myself .. "why the hell isnt your stick down in front?"
- Dozzer

Yet he still had the 7th highest spct in the NHL. We're a 99 point team with Reimer in goal and a 70 point team with the other stiffs. Reimer never was the problem. But I do like this trade, means we might be a 90 plus point team all the time, not just when Reimer starts.

Agreed. I think they will be re-signed. Best case scenario we re-sign Gunnar and he gets over his hip issues and then we sign a UFA D man to play with Phaneuf or Gardiner. If we land a Scuderi, Ference or Hainsey, Id be ok with Gunnar beside Gardiner or Phaneuf with the UFA beside the other.
- markmark

Don't quote me, but I am pretty sure I remember an interview between Gunnar and Henny where they indicated that the hip injury is a long term/chronic issue that can be handled with pain management/or fixed with surgery. But it seems Gunnar had no intention of attempting surgery, and I have not heard any news indicating he opted for this in the off season yet.

I think you're overdoing the negatives to justify this trade. Reimer had 8th best Save% in the League this year

I have come to the conclusion none of you know what you're talking about, so lonely being one of the few with any hockey knowledge on this thread, it's like none of you have played the game, you all bore me.

I'm going to the Oilers blog where they know hockey.

reimer? when he can prove that he can still keep the puck out when people get in his kitchen.. right now he cant do that consistently enough
- Dozzer

gotcha

I don't think Reimer will have a chance to win you over as he will be shipped to Edmonton as part of a package for the 7th pick in the draft and the leafs sign nabakov (sp) as a backup.

Nature of the Beast, if Reimer can't overcome it he isn't good enough. That's how you build a contender

I know most disagree but I think from here out the moves should be:

1) Pay for Ribeiro
2) Get an UFA D partner for Gardiner/Phaneuf
3) Find a top 9 winger.

1+2 costs CAP SPACE that's it. I think Clarkson won't live up to the big contract he will undoubtedly get (and hopefully not from us). I'd like Clarkson, but only up to a certain $$ number. At least if Ribeiro is overpaid he will still put up points and structure our center situation well. Unless Mac is brought back for some reason, we are still short a 2nd line and a 3rd line winger.

It's still a win for Toronto.

We gave up nothing. Scrivens can be replaced by just about anyone or anything.

Frattin just isn't that good - I don't think he'll ever be more than a third liner who constantly frustrates you for not showing more.

And a 2nd rounder - we get to choose the year.

Worst case scenario - we have a better back-up than Scrivens.

That's the worst case.

- Atomic Wedgie

Both players haven't even remotely shown what they will be. Time will tell, and I'm guessing this trade is regrettable.

Man, everyone seems to be pretty down on Reimer. I watched a lot of Leafs games this year ( Thanks CBC) and he certainly deserves a lot of credit for getting the leafs into the playoffs.

Putting up a .924SV% while getting constantly shelled with shots was pretty good.

A lot of teams would love that number, so I'm sure teams will call.

- Talkshowhost

I'm a big Reimer fan and have nothing negative to say about him. I also wont bash Frattin now that he's no longer a Leaf. That being said I'm a huge fan of the Bernier deal.

The it might end up being a better move than we think, if they leafs can get a decent return back for Riemer when the time comes. the leafs can afford to wait. Its not like he has a luongo contract

Every single player is trying to run the next guy out of town.

That's what makes them professionals.

This team squeaked into the playoffs in the last week of the season, and lost in the first round.

Standing pat is not an option.
