I disagree.

He has his fans, and he has those who don't see him as a top guy.

I don't.

There are 30 teams in the NHL...which means 60 top pairing dman.
Are you saying that there are at least 60 guys better then Phaneuf?

Same with Mats Sundin.

We get it, Robin.

You hate Toronto. You hate all things Toronto. Toronto sucks.

Even when Toronto is helping to pay for your health care.

But Toronto sucks. All of it.

Ummmmm, could it be because he plays in Toronto, the black hole of hockey positivity?

That every single thing the Leafs do is reported on by 47 reporters?

That you have career douchebags like Simmons and Cox who need to demonstrate their superior hockey IQ by being contrarians on every subject?

Here's another little fact for you to chew on: of the top ten scoring defencemen in the NHL, Dion Phanuef averaged the most PK time.

10th in the league in scoring.

18th in the league in PKTOI/G

Sooo.....your argument that he isn't good offensively sucks.

And your argument that he isn't good defensively sucks.

You have been weighed, measured and found wanting.

Same deal in Calgary.

He was traded for a reason

just the way i worded it, he is not a #1 on every team.

he is our #1 by far though, and id say on a good chunk of teams he would be on the top pairing...

- big_dion

There isn't a single team in the league where he wouldn't be top pairing.

Not a single team in the league.

Two major problems with Dion that can be corrected, one is he has trouble pivoting and gets beat on the outside, has to work with skating coach, two is he waits for the play to come to him or just stands there instead of angling or forcing a player to give up the puck like the best d-men do.
- LeafMan

he'll be to busy trying to make babies with his future wife..
so I hope he doesn't come to camp a tad heavy but it's a contract year so who knows ...

He gets beat to the outside..... Often
- robin_steele264

As Leafman said, his pivoting could use work... but in terms of forward speed, he's good...One of the few guys on the d-line last year that consistently could move the puck up with speed... without just launching it and letting the other team recover it.

I think the Leafs deserve a better captain/face of the franchise.

I'll leave it at that.

I agree with you on this...
Phaneuf should not be the Leafs captain - but that is another reason why he is under such a huge microscope. That and his salary.

If Phaneuf had an A and a 5 million dollar salary, he would be much more highly regarded.

Dion fans often get quite agitated when he get criticized.

I normally don't bother cause most of the flack he takes comes from Leaf fans themselves.

A non-leaf fan says something and they go all 'leaf hater'

But as you all know I love the Leafs!

I would rather have Seabrook and Keith as a #1 and 2, other than that, you can make the argument about every team in the league.

Yeah, because he demanded accountability from players, and softies like Bouwmeester didn't like it.

Talk about betting on the wrong horse.
